How do I change a banking rule that was automatically misapplied to a banking transaction?

I'll help you assign the correct category of your transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @dianerohde203.

Before we change the bank rule, let's recategorize the bank transactions that were incorrectly assigned by the rule. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions/Banking menu and select Banking.
  2. In the For review tab, click the transaction that you want to categorize properly.
  3. Click the Categorize button, then assign this transaction to the correct accounts.
  4. Once done, click Add.

In case you've categorized transactions in incorrect accounts, you can undo them by going to the Categorized section and click Undo under the Action column.

Once everything is all set, we can now go back to the rules that you've created, then edit it from there. Just to the Banking/Transactions menu and select Banking. Then, go the Rules section and click Edit (the rule that you've wanted to modify). Make the necessary corrections and click Save.

In addition, to make sure that your transactions are matched to your real-life bank accounts, you can reconcile them monthly in QuickBooks.

That's it! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to be of assistance. Wishing you and your business continued success in all that you do.
