I'll present handy information and steps to help you handle your online banking transactions.
When you connect an account for online banking, QuickBooks will download the 90-days or less of your entries. This process is automatic and cannot be opted out of. Thus, you're unable to select a download start date for the 2021 transactions only.
The good news is, you can get rid of those unwanted entries by excluding them in bulk. Follow the easy steps below to get you going.
Next, you can click the Update button to see the latest entries for 2021.
Another option is to manually upload your entries to select and bring in those that you want only.
For good practice, you'll want to categorize and match your entries. This helps keep your books correct and organized.
I'm still around to back you up if you need additional banking tips. Assistance is a reply away.
Hi there, @userldneergaard.
There isn't a way to specify a starting date. When you connect a bank feed, QuickBooks automatically download up to 90 days of transactions.
What you can do is to exclude the transaction from the banking tab. Then, click the Update so it will ring up the resent transactions for you.
Here’s how:
Once completed, click the Update on the upper right to refresh the feed. QuickBooks will cycle through the connected accounts to pull in new data.
You can check out this article if you want to manually upload transactions from your bank to QuickBooks. It will also allow you to upload more than 90 days of transactions: Manually upload Transactions.

I have this account so messed up now I'll never get it right. What I can't understand is I have deposits that were made to my checking account, and the word "transfer" is in the description. And for some reason quickbooks doesn't think I have enough sense to categorize it because it insists that I tell it which account it was transfered from. It didn't transfer from any of my accounts so why is quickbooks worried about it!!!!!
I am about ready to give up on this program!
I understand the importance of being able to categorize your deposit transactions accordingly in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @userldneergaard. That's why I'm here to guide you on the actions you need to take care of the issue.
When your account is linked to the online banking feature, the QBO system will automatically download and categorizes your transactions. However, it'll normally let you update your transaction details (i.e. account category). When you're unable to do so, you can isolate the issue by performing some troubleshooting steps. I'm here to guide you how.
There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed pages, thus causing some unusual responses to the system. You can start by logging into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:
Once signed in, go to the Banking page and re-categorize the deposit transaction. If you're able to do so, return to your regular browser and clear its cache and cookies. This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performance issues. However, if the problem continues, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.
After categorizing, I'd recommend reconciling your checking account every month. This is to effectively monitor the growth of your business. You can refer to this article for the step-by-step guide: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online. It also includes details about reviewing past reconciliations.
Please let me know if you have other banking concerns or other inquiries by dropping a comment below. I'm just around to help. Take care always.
I have the same issue. My company has been in business for several years and I have always manually reconciled, how do I start downloading things only effective 2021?

I just linked a bank account also, can I delete it and start over so I can choose the correct dates I want downloaded onto quickbooks?
Thanks for joining the Community, Cmann4fft.
You can disconnect accounts from your banking screen.
Here's how:
As far as choosing specific dates for QuickBooks to download from your financial institution, when you connect an account to online banking, Intuit downloads the last 90 days of records. This process is automatic. To choose your own dates, you'll need to get transactions from your bank, then import them into QuickBooks.

I see how to exclude the dates as you stated, however I want to get them out of my system permanently. I intended to only link 2023 transactions, but instead linked 2022 & 2023 -- so I'm trying to delete them out of all of my bank accounts that I linked. Suggestions?
I'm trying to reconcile January 2023 (for the very first time) and it shows 29 payments, when in fact I have only 15 in January of 2023. I believe the reason for this is it that it's looking at all of the 2022 data that was linked and not reconciled.
Hi there, @acmlslong.
I'm here to help you remove excluded transactions permanently in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
You can go to the Excluded tab on the Banking page to delete transactions permanently. To do this, here's how:

Thank you very much for your reply. I did just that and the 2022 transactions still keep showing up in my transactions to reconcile when I try to do my first reconciliation of 1/31/23. Why is that?
Thank you. I did just as you explained and it did delete the excluded transactions when looking at the Banking section. However, when I go to continue with my first reconciliation of 1/31/23, it still includes all of the 2022 transactions? I am able to uncheck them and reconcile but why are they in there?
Hello there,

I was able to reconcile several months and now I've hit a month where I can't reconcile. Once again QB is showing that they have more transactions versus my bank account statement. How do I review those transactions that QB sees when reconciling? I've checked off everyone that has popped up and it doesn't add up to the number of transactions showing on the top of the reconciliation page?
Hi there, @acmlslong. Let's work together to find the reconciliation discrepancy and sort this issue out.
There are a few possible reasons caused these unwanted transactions that QuickBooks Online sees when reconciling your account. It might be that:
This may be why QuickBooks has more transactions than your bank statement. Here's how you can fix it:
For more details, please read this article: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online.
Otherwise, you can review the Audit Log to track the activities of those who made the changes to your books. To ensure the accuracy of your books, you can also reach out to your accountant for further guidance.
Also, you can print or export them to save copies for later use. Refer to this article for more tips: How do I view, print, or export a reconciliation report?
If you have any other reconciliation concerns, let me know by leaving a reply below. I'm always here to help you out.
Thank you for your reply, however I'm still struggling as...
- My opening balance matched so I know that's not the issue and I triple checked that I have the right ending balance.
- The issue is occurring during the period that is being reconciled and there are transactions that are being tracked in this March time period that I can't see when I hit reconcile but that it's counting. (So in other words the Bank statement show 15 transactions and they all show up and are checked when I start to reconcile. However, QB shows 19 transactions lingering out there --- but they are not showing up in that time period.). Makes me think think that there are unreconciled transactions from prior months sitting somewhere that haven't been reconciled. How do I find those?
- I suspect that this happened when I changed the categorization of 4 owners draws and included them in sub categories of owners draws. However, I manually went back and reconciled those changes immediately when I made those changes. But maybe I did something wrong there?
Thank you for helping me figure this out.
I'll lend a hand in fixing those transactions when you perform the bank reconciliation, acmlslong.
We can check and filter the bank register to see the reconciled transactions. If you'll see an unreconciled transaction, we can manually mark it as reconciled by changing its status to (R). I'll guide you on how to do it.
Furthermore, it is advisable to review the sub-categories of the owner's draw to validate the account. It might be the account was modified, which is why it is not appearing in the reconciliation window.
I'm also including the following articles for your future reference:
Please keep me posted on how it goes. I'd like to make sure you're able to reconcile the account. Take care!
