How do I fix bank link issues if already linked accounts update fine and bank can be access with web-interface? Both QB & bank blame each other.

I have many accts with my bank (update no prob) but cannot link an add'l acct with same bank. Separate login to bank works fine. QB says no limit to number of accounts linked. And that bank must be the problem. Bank says if other accounts update (they do) and I can access bank through web services, problem is on QB side. Neither side is helping at all. I know I can do manual updates but would prefer auto downloads of data.

How do I fix bank link issues if already linked accounts update fine and bank can be access with web-interface? Both QB & bank blame each other.

Thanks to everyone for their help.  Intuit/Quickbooks finally verified that the problem is on their end.  The reason I was able to connect was because they had done a temporary fix to allow me to do so.

I find it interesting that the reason I was having trouble is because the database where our company's records are held is corrupt.  That is interesting because it is on their server and all the data has been entered through their software interface.  If the data is corrupt, I am not sure how I created it.  But our company will have to pay multiple thousands of dollars to get it fixed.  Doesn't seem right.  We are still trying to decide whether or not to do that and are dead in the water until then as we were advised not to process any more transactions as that may result in an even higher charge to clean it up.

Thanks again for the great advice.  Sorry it didn't help.  Your efforts are appreciated.

Thanks for sharing the details, @EggersTree.

Let's connect this account in QuickBooks to auto-download the data. I've got the steps you can perform to ensure that it will link seamlessly.

Since you're connecting the same account in QuickBooks, I'd suggest creating the other account as a sub-account. It's the best way to set up a different account under the same bank name when you have multiple cards associated with it.

Here's how to change an existing account into a sub-account:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account and select the small arrow ▼ in the Action column. Then select Edit.
  3. Select Is sub-account and then enter the parent account.
  4. Select Save and Close.

If you're unable to notice which bank is the parent and the sub-account, you can check it through this article to learn more: About bank or credit card subaccount setup.

Then you can link to the bank by clicking the small arrow ▼ in the Action column in Chart of Accounts, then select Connect bank.

In case you haven't created the sub-account in the COA yet, you can reference this article for the detailed steps: Create sub-accounts in your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online. It covers how your sub-accounts will look like in your COA tab and reports.

Once the transactions are downloaded, then you can work with categorizing, matching, and adding transactions to the QuickBooks register.

Feel free to add a comment anytime if you have additional questions. I'm here to help you always. Take care!

I think there is some confusion.  These are not cards.  They are actual bank accounts.

Even though these accounts are at the same bank, none are subaccounts of others.  I know in the COA I can make it look like I want (and I have) but how does that work in Banking?  At this point, I can't access the bank through the "Link Account" script in QB online so I'm not sure how I will get the feed automatically until I do.  I have the account set up in COA and, of course, can manually import transactions; but I would love for them to feed automatically through Banking in Transactions.  That is where I am failing to get the link.

Good News Everyone!!  The Link process seems to be working.  Tried it earlier today with the same 102 error but now, I am actually getting things set up.  Thanks for you help.

Good day, EggersTree.

You can connect multiple accounts under the same bank. The most possible reason why you're unable to link it is due to a browser error. Let me show you how to fix it.

First, open an incognito window, log in to your account, and connect the other bank accounts from there. Here are some keyboard shortcuts you can try:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

We can also clear the cache. This is a junk file stored on the browser that can cause issues in QuickBooks Online. Additionally, make sure that the browser is updated or use a different one.

I've added this link for your reference if you received an error message: Bank error or bank transactions won’t download.

Post again here if you need anything else. Stay safe!
