How do I get QB 2020 Pro to "see" account that existed under QB Pro 2017 so I can import files usig QBO file.

Hi there, @ sse77mse-gmail-c.

I'm here to help export your desktop files, make sure that you're using the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop so that you'll be able to export files from it seamlessly.

To see the account that existed under QuickBooks Pro 2017, you'll have to restore the backup file of your company.

Here's how:

  1.  Let's ensure all users are logged out of your company file.
  2. Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Select Open or Restore Company if you don't have a company file open. You can also go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  4. Select Open a company file, then Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), select Restore a backup copy and then Local backup.
  5. Browse your computer for your company file. You wrote down the file location in Step 1. Select it and then select Open.
  6. Sign in to your company file as an admin user.
  7. Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can select Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
  8. Select Update Now to start the upgrade.
  9. When QuickBooks is finished, select Done.

How do I get QB 2020 Pro to "see" account that existed under QB Pro 2017 so I can import files usig QBO file.

Needless to say you are answering a question not related to my question. I all ready have the files from the former 2017 imported. I can go to List of Account and see data. Since every question I send goes to a different member there is no continuity in a dialogue. What a craze system.

Again, my problem is entering NEW transactions. I have QBO files that have not been entered/imported. When I try to import, QB ask whether I want to create a new account or import them to an existing account. The pull down menu does not list the existing account.

Needless to say the above exceeded the 170 character limit to inquiries I made earlier.

Curious to know how I would know you received this question.

Good Morning, @sse77mse-gmail-c

Thanks for the clarification. Let's try a few basic troubleshooting steps to help fix this problem.

Verifying and Rebuilding your data withing your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account will identify the most commonly known data issues and resolve most data integrity trouble. Here's how:

Verify Data

  1. Choose Window and then Close All
  2. Go to the File menu.
  3. Hover over Utilities
  4. Pick Verify Data
  • "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data," no further action is needed.
  • "Your data has lost integrity," indicates there is data damage in the file.  Continue to the steps below to Rebuild Data to correct the problem.

Rebuild Data

  1. Go through steps 2-3 from above.
  2. Select Rebuild Data
  3. Tap OK when a message appears to backup your company file.
  4. Once the backup is finished the Rebuild Data utility will start.
  5. Press OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed."

Here's an additional article that can help you check for the remaining data damage within your company file.

If you're still not able to see the existing account option, then I recommend contacting our Customer Support Team. They have more advanced tools to look further into your account to see what's causing this option to disappear.

Should you need any further assistance, just let me know. It's my priority that you're able to get this option available to you as soon as possible. Take care!

How do I get QB 2020 Pro to "see" account that existed under QB Pro 2017 so I can import files usig QBO file.

This is normal and it happens when the account you want to import into is already associated with a bank and routing number, or a credit card account number, for import that is different than the ones in the QBO file you're attempting to import.

To get the account to show up as an option, edit it from your chart of accounts and and then on the Bank Feed Settings tab, pick Deactivate All Online Services.

Then try importing the QBO file again and you should see the account as available to associate with your QBO file.
