How do I import the portable file from my accountant sent to my google drive into my online qb account?

Hello there, darlenestinson4r.

Let me assist you in importing data into your account.

I just want to clarify, are you referring to the portable file from QuickBooks Desktop? If so, we're unable to directly import it to QuickBooks Online. What I can suggest is to open the file in QuickBooks Desktop. From there, we can move the data into your QuickBooks Online account.

If you don't have QuickBooks Desktop installed, you can download and install our trial version. Then, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open portable company file in QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. From the Company menu, then select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Select Start your export. On the pop-up, sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

I also have an article here for your reference: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online. You can also click this link if the file you're referring to isn't a QuickBooks Desktop file: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

I'll be here if you need more help with this. Wishing you all the best!

How do I import the portable file from my accountant sent to my google drive into my online qb account?

I can't seem to do it because of the following message: An Accountants copy was created for this file. While an Accountant is working on it, you can only work on transactions dated after 10/31/18.

I haven't had that accountant for a few years. How do I cancel/turn that off?

Hi darlenestinson4r. Removing this restriction it nice and easy. But remember that the change is irreversible. Here's how.

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Send Company File.
  2. Choose Accountant's copy, then Client Activities.
  3. Click Remove Restrictions.
  4. Select Yes, I want to remove the Accountant's Copy restrictions, then OK.

It's always proper to make sure to create a backup as well before you attempt removing accountants copy restrictions.

If you want some more information about accountant's copies here are a couple of articles that may help:

Please let me know if you need anything else, I'm always here to help. Have a good day.

Hello,

Something else to keep in mind.  If you are wanting to ADD the data from the accountants copy into your QB Online account, it will 100% OVERWRITE whatever data is already in your QBO account. (This is only also possible during the first 60 days fof the online file being created)

You cannot take desktop file and "add the info" into an existing QBO file.  It will overwrite the file with whatever you import from desktop.

@darlenestinson4r

Do you want re-migrate data completely or else? If you wish to insert data to your current QBO account from QB Desktop file, you will need another method.
