How to re import web connect files

Reloading web connect files. Each transaction within the file contains a unique identifier. With a little manual manipulation you can modify this identifier and reload the file. However, be careful the purpose of this unique identifier to make sure you don't import duplicate entries.

1. Open the web connect file with the text edit.

2. Select edit>find>find and replace.

3. In the search field enter <FITID>

4. In replace field enter <FITID>1

5. Select "Replace All", then done.

6. Import the web connect file into quickbooks (file menu-> Utilities-> import->web connect)

Thank you SkinnyRaven! That worked great.

I messed up recording a paypal transaction and could not get the transaction download to match up with it so deleted the transaction from QB and reentered it correctly. Could no longer get QB to recognize the transaction on subsequent downloads. Editing the FTID in the qbo file did the trick.

This is a valuable workaround for what I think QB should make possible in a more straightforward way. Perhaps QB tech support could have given user12372 some effective help if there was a formal interface to do this.

Thanks again!

So you checked off some downloaded transactions from the Transactions List in Bank Feeds and chose to "Ignore" them? which does in fact delete them from the transaction list....You would need to redownload the statement from the bank into the bank feeds module. There is no way to recover them inside QB itself. sorry.

Somtimes your bank can allow you to redownload the statement, but that would be on their end. Unless the bank resets your status, QB will think the statement is already downloaded and will not allow you to do it a 2nd time for risk of creating duplicate transactions.

It's nice to see you here today, @Anonymous,

Allow me to chime into this conversation.

If you want to edit your .QBO file before importing it into QuickBooks Desktop, you'll only need to locate it from the folder where you saved it. From there, you can right-click on the file then select Open with.

That option should allow you to choose the default program for you to edit the file.

Please let me know if you're referring to something else, @Anonymous. You can mention me anytime if you need further assistance. I'll be glad to work with you again.

Thanks for joining the Online Community, shelleyv5.

It’s my priority that you’re able to open the WebConnect file in TextEdit.

To do this, you’ll have to configure the setup of your computer. Let me walk you through the steps.

Here’s how:

  1. Right-click on the file that uses the file type you'd like to change the default for. For example, one with a.QBO extension
  2. Choose Get Info.
  3. If the section is not yet expanded, click on Open With.
  4. Click the drop-down and choose TextEdit.
  5. Choose Change All.
  6. Select Continue if you agree to change all similar documents to open with the application.

Any time you open a file with the .QBO extension, the Finder will automatically open it with Text Edit.

This information should point you in the right direction opening the WebConnect file.

Please keep me posted on if you're able to successfully access the file. I'm still here if you need further assistance.

When i click the file , nothing like your directions come up.  Why does QB make it so hard to work their program.  I have the options: open with word, notepad, paint, internet explorer, chrome, media player, wordpad?  What one do i use?

Hi there, shelleyv5.

Allow me to step in and provide help with reviewing the web connect (.qbo) file from your bank.

If TextEdit is not an option, you can use Notepad (or Excel) to review and make a correction on the data.

Here's how:

  1. Right-click the file.
  2. Select Open with.
  3. Select Notepad or Excel.
  4. Add or Edit missing data.
  5. Save the file (.QBO).
  6. Create a backup of your data before importing to QuickBooks.

In case you want to know more about how you can create backup, you can follow the detailed steps in this article:

Create backup of the QuickBooks Desktop company file.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you regarding the Webconnect file. I'll be on a lookout for your response.

Re: How to re import web connect files Reloading web connec...

How do I find the web connect file for a deleted transaction? I'm not sure I even know what a webconnect file is....I just know that I deleted a bank deposit before I could match it with a statement - I hit "add"....which apparently means death. Now I can't find it anywhere and I have an invoice that looks like it's past due and my accounts are all off....

Thanks for joining this thread, @emcshinsky.

I can help guide you on how to retrieve the web connect file for a deleted transactions in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

To record the deleted transaction that was downloaded from the WebConnect file, you can just manually enter bank deposit in QBDT.

The other option is, you can import web connect (.qbo) file to download the deleted bank transaction manually from bank's website and import them into QuickBooks. To do this, you can follow the detailed steps in this article: Import web connect (.qbo) files

I followed this exactly, but when I re-open the modified web-connect file, it does not count the transactions as new.  I have Quickbooks Premier 2019.

Re: How to re import web connect files Reloading web connec...

Let me help you sort this out, @alyeskane.

I can provide information about downloading transaction into QuickBooks Desktop.

There are no a reported issue with regards to Web Connect file, however, I have some troubleshooting steps to add that should work for you.

You may download directly from the banks website, outside of QuickBooks:

  1. Visit your bank's website outside of QuickBooks.
  2. Download and Save the .QBO file to your Desktop.
  3. In QuickBooks:
    1. Go to File menu.
    2. Select Utilities.
    3. Choose Import.
    4. Click Webconnect files.
    5. Browse to the file location, choose the file and select Open.
    6. Follow the import wizard to complete the import.

You can also duplicate the issue in a new test file:

  1. From the QuickBooks File menu, select New Company.
  2. Choose Express Start.
  3. On the newly created test company, add your bank account to the Chart of Accounts.
  4. Set up the account for Bank Feeds.
  5. Download or import the .qbo file.

If the import is successful in a new test file, the issue lies in the original data file. Otherwise, the issue is with the .QBO file formatting provided by your bank.

To fix it, check out solution 2 detailed in this article and 3-4 for more troubleshooting steps:

Re: How to re import web connect files Reloading web connec...

Thanks for the reply.

The issue wasn't in regards to importing file.  I accidentally had ignored a bunch of transactions in the Bank Feeds and I was trying to get them back by following the instructions on this thread by changing the <FITID> numbers in the .qbo file.  I did as instructed and Quickbooks still did not show those transactions.

Instructions I followed:

How to re import web connect files

Reloading web connect files. Each transaction within the file contains a unique identifier. With a little manual manipulation you can modify this identifier and reload the file. However, be careful the purpose of this unique identifier to make sure you don't import duplicate entries.

1. Open the web connect file with the text edit.

2. Select edit>find>find and replace.

3. In the search field enter <FITID>

4. In replace field enter <FITID>1

5. Select "Replace All", then done.

6. Import the web connect file into quickbooks (file menu-> Utilities-> import->web connect)
