Let’s disconnect your American Express (AMEX) from QuickBooks Online (QBO).

When you disconnect an account:

• It stays active in QBO but you stop QBO from getting your transactions from your bank.
• You can reconnect the account later.
• The transactions in your For Review tab will be deleted. You'll want to add the transactions before disconnecting it.

If you want to disconnect an account because of a bank connection error, you might download duplicate transactions or duplicate opening balance entries when the account is reconnected. Instead, you can resolve the problem with the information in this article: Fix Online Banking Errors in QBO.

If your connected account is in the middle of an update, the option to disconnect the account is unavailable. Please wait for the update attempt to complete before trying to disconnect.

After that, you can disconnect your AMEX bank account by performing the steps below: 

1. Go to the Banking tab from the left menu.
2. Select Banking.
3. Click the Edit (pencil) icon on the account you want to change.
4. Click Edit account info.
5. In the Account window, check the Disconnect this account on save box.
6. Click Save and Close.
