How to close bank account and open new account and register

Hi there, @princehtgcooling


Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I hope you're having a wonderful day so far. 


In QuickBooks Desktop, you'd want to mark the account inactive. The account will still be there but will remain inactive until you decided to mark it active again. We aren't able to delete any account if transactions are attached to it. I recommend to reconcile the account and then mark it as inactive. Below I've included the steps on marking an account inactive and also how you can create a new one. 


Let's get started. 


1. Open your Chart of Accounts


2. Locate the account and right-click it. Then, choose Edit account.


3. Once the Edit account screen is populated, check off the checkbox next to Account is inactive



4. Hit Save and Close once the box is checked. 


Now let's create a new account:


1. Open your Chart of Accounts



2. At the bottom of the screen, click the Account drop-down arrow. Then, select New



3. For the account type, choose Bank. Then hit Continue to proceed. 



4. Provide an account name and fill in the bank account and routing numbers. 



5. You can enter the account opening balance if you wish to do so. Once you're finished filling in the required information, click Save and Close to save the account.
