How to enter church deposits

I'll help you in recording your church donations, finance93.

You can change your QuickBooks Online account type into a nonprofit organization to better tracking of donations (if you're running non-profit organization). To be able to record these transactions, we'll have to create a dedicated revenue account to track the money you receive from your donors. I'll guide you how:

  1. Select Accounting from sidebar menu and then go to the Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click the New button to create a new account.
  3. In the Account Type drop-down menu, choose an account type.
  4. Select Non-Profit Revenue as the detail type.
  5. Enter “Fund donations" in the name field, then add a description.
  6. When you're done, select Save and Close.

Once done, we'll have to add the donor as a customer in your account. Then, we can now use a sales receipt or bank deposit to record the donation:

Using sales receipt:

  1. Click the + New icon, then choose Sales receipt.
  2. Click Customize, then choose your donation template (if you have one).
  3. Make sure to select the donor and donation item you set up.
  4. Enter all sales information needed to complete the sales receipt.
  5. Select the Payment method drop-down menu, then choose how you receive the donation.
  6. Hit Save and close or Save and send.

Using bank deposit:

  1. Click the + New icon, then choose Bank Deposit.
  2. From the Account drop-down menu, choose the account you want to deposit the money into.
  3. Enter the necessary information.
  4. Make sure to select the donor and the revenue account you set up for donations.
  5. Select Save and close or Save and new.
