I am trying to upload a csv of bank transactions, and I've followed the format for 3 columns but no matter what, I get the 'error importing' message. Any help on this?

Let's check the file format of your .CSV file so you can successfully import your transactions into your QuickBooks Self-Employed account, threeblueowls.

The error message you received is likely due to an incorrect file format. To help resolve this issue, please double-check that your file format matches one of the accepted formats for importing transactions. Additionally, ensure that your file adheres to the following formatting restrictions:

  • Special characters are not allowed.
  • Zeros (0) are not allowed anywhere in the file.
  • Correct any transactions that display an amount in the Description column.
  • Remove the word amount if it appears in the name of the Credit or Debit column.
  • MAC users must save the file as a Windows CSV file.
  • Correct and standardize the Date format to a single format (for example, dd/mm/yyyy).
  • Some banks provide the day of the week and include it in the Date column (for example, 20/11/2018 TUE in column A) which is not an acceptable format. To correct this, split the date and the day of the week in two separate columns.

Once the format is verified, you can proceed to  import transactions and begin categorizing them, ensuring they align correctly with your Schedule C.

If you are interested in creating bank rules to quickly categorize your transactions, let us know in the comments. I can provide that information here.

@threeblueowls

Try opening your QBO account on any private/incognito browser. If the same errror persists, use csv2qbo converter tool as a workaround.
