I'm here to help you with opening QuickBooks Desktop so you can export your files, jwinks85.

Did you receive an error message when trying to open your QuickBooks Desktop? There could be several possible causes unto this:

  1. Your company name might be too long
  2. You may have a damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  3. You may have corruption on your hard drive
  4. Your program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation may be damaged
  5. You may have a damaged Windows operating system.

Let's run the Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub to resolve these issues so you can open the program. Here's how:

  1. Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file and save it.
  2. Open the file you've downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install and agree the terms and conditions.
  4. When the install finishes, double-click the icon to open the tool hub.
  5. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  6. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  7. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your file.

You can check out this article about troubleshooting steps on how to fix when you're unable to open QBDT: QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open.

I can't start up my computer that had my QB desktop. It's inoperable. Can't I just open the QB file from desktop online?

Hey there, @jwinks85

I'm here to provide you with some additional information about locating your company file so you can export your company data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. If your computer crashed or you need to undo recent changes, use a backup company file to restore your accounting data. Since you're not able to use the computer that the QuickBooks Desktop company file is on, then I recommend contacting our Customer Support Team. They have additional tools to help you locate the file.

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help
  3. Press Contact Us
  4. Type in your question and click Continue
  5. Scroll down and select to Get a Callback

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I value you and the success of your business. Have a wonderful day!
