I have a refund check that was mailed to me. I have QB Checking (online) and I'd like to deposit that check. Can I do that and if so, where?

Glad to see you here in the QuickBooks Community, Eric. Yes, we can deposit the refund check to your QuickBooks Checking in QuickBooks Online (QBO), and I'm here to help you how.

First, let's deposit the check to the bank account connected to your QuickBooks Checking. To do that:

  1. Go to + New and select Bank deposit.
  2. In the Account dropdown, select the bank account you want to put the money into.
  3. In the Add funds to this deposit, select the vendor from the Received from column.
  4. Select the Account, and enter the Payment method as Check.
  5. Enter the Reference no. and Amount, then select Save and close.

Once done, let's put the funds into your QuickBooks Checking account. Here's how:

  1. Go to Cash Flow, then select QuickBooks Checking.
  2. Click Transfer and choose the option to transfer the money between your accounts.
  3. Enter the amount.
  4. Select (+) in the From field, then select the bank account where you deposited the check.
  5. In the To field, select your QuickBooks Checking account, and enter the amount you want to transfer.
  6. Select Finalize transfer.

We can also use the mobile check deposit to deposit funds into QuickBooks Checking. It's a practical way to simultaneously manage your books and deposit consumer check payments without going to the bank. However, this option isn't available to all customers. You'll know you're qualified if you see Deposit checks when you click on Get Money.

Furthermore, I'd recommend reconciling your bank accounts monthly to ensure they match your bank statements. Doing so will guarantee that your books are balanced and accurate.

Let me know in the comments below if you have additional questions about depositing checks. We're always on standby to answer them for you. Have a great day!

Thank you!

So, the check is made out to my business, so I have not deposited the check into an account to transfer from (reference note #4: Select (+) in the From field, then select the bank account where you deposited the check.)

I don't have any options for mobile check deposit on my iOS or Android device. I have QB Checking and Payments setup. Why am I not still eligible?

Thanks for the prompt response, Eric.

I'm here to provide additional insights about depositing a refund check into your QuickBooks Checking account.

You'll need to record a bank deposit to the bank account linked to your QuickBooks Checking account first so you can transfer the funds to your QuickBooks Checking account. After that, you can follow the detailed steps shared by my peer, JaeAnnC, above. See this reference for more information: Use your QuickBooks Checking account.

Regarding your mobile check deposit concern, it's only available on iOS devices and is also subject to eligibility criteria. Your QuickBooks Checking or Money by QuickBooks account must be active and in good standing.

However, since you don't have those options, I suggest contacting our Payments Support Team. This way, they can review your account and verify when you'll be eligible for the mobile check deposit.

Additionally, you can visit this article that answers the frequently asked questions to help you manage your checks: Find out more about mobile check deposit.
