It could be a program error, khoyerfarrier.

Since QuickBooks 2010 is no longer supported, you'll want to sign up for a free trial version. Then, restore your file and export to QuickBooks Online.

Here's an article to guide you through downloading QuickBooks Desktop trial version.

Once you're done, you can now restore your 2010 file. Here's how:

  1. Click File.
  2. Click Open or Restore Company.
  3. Click the Restore a backup copy.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Choose Local backup, and then click Next.
  6. Select the file location of your back up copy.
  7. Click OK until Finish.

Afterward, you can import the QuickBooks Desktop data to QuickBooks Online.

My version of Quickbooks Pro 2010 does not have a menu option to export my data file to QuickBooks Online.  Is there another way?

I'm here to make sure you can get all your data moved to QuickBooks Online without a moment's delay, @robissimo.

You can only export your file using any supported Desktop version, 2018 and up. Not to worry, you can install our trial version, where you can restore your backup copy

Here's how to export the file:

  1. Restore the backup copy.
  2. Click the Company menu.
  3. Choose Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.

  4. Select Start your export.
  5. Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.
  6. Follow the next on-screen instructions.

Know that there are limitations when you convert your file. That includes the attachments, audit trail, and recurring transactions. Once done, I'd recommend running the Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports to ensure that you transferred your data correctly. To verify your reports in both products, filter the date period to All Dates and the accounting method to Accrual. @robissimo

I am not sure QBD 2021 is able to open your company file directly in one jump and migrate it to QBO.

You may need the trial license of QBD 2015/2016/2017 to convert the file as the stepping stone.
