I want to move my online account to a desktop account

I'm here to provide the steps on how to move your QuickBooks Online data to Desktop, @WCOC.

Take note that when you things will look different after you export your data to QuickBooks Desktop. To learn more about this, you can check out this article: Get more info about what data does and doesn't export from QuickBooks Online.

Once you're ready, first thing we need to do is to download and install QuickBooks Desktop. If you don't have a license to QuickBooks Desktop, you can download the QuickBooks Desktop File Restoration Tool for this process. In QuickBooks, proceed to File and select Close Company. Leave QuickBooks Desktop open while you complete the rest of the steps.

Then, sign in to QuickBooks Online and download the migration tool.

1. Log in to the QuickBooks Online account you want to convert using a supported web browser. Use your Intuit Account credentials.
2. Select the URL and replace anything after /app/ with exportqbodatatoqbdt.  The URL should say https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt. Then select Enter on your keyboard. Other support task links won't work during this process.
3. You'll see an Export Overview Window. Read the Export Overview. You can print out it if you'd like. Select Get Started.
4. Click Download tool to download the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool.
5. Once you download the tool, launch it to install and choose Next.
6. Accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.
7. Choose Complete as the type of setup, then Next.
8. Select Install, then Finish.

QB Online US version to QB Desktop US version?

Which QB Desktop year version do you have? You can only purchase a one time license for QB Desktop 2021 or the subscription license for QB Desktop 2022/2023 Pro from partners at this time. 

If I move my online account to a desktop account will the online account still be available should I change my mind?

After transferring your data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), your QBO account will still be accessible if you change your mind. You're only moving your data, not changing your subscription. However, it's important to note that any changes made in QBDT won't automatically sync to QBO.

You should have the trial version of QB Desktop 2021 Pro to convert data from QBO if you prefer to use QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus or Premier Plus. If you use the trial version of Enterprise, you must purchase a 3rd party downgrade service later.

can the data be moved to earlier version of quickbooks? say Quickbooks 2019

You can purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data with a single currency to QB Desktop 2020 or 2021.

Welcome to the Community, @rrcan. I'm here to help you in moving your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data to an earlier version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

If you want to move your data from QBO, it's recommended to use the QBDT-supported version to access the newest features and product enhancements since QBDT 2019 is no longer supported.

Once you have your product and license number, we can proceed with getting the installer by going to the Downloads & Updates page. Then, let's install and set this up on your computer.

After setting up, let's prepare your QBO file for exporting your data to QBDT:

1. Login to your QBO company.
2. Go to the Gear icon and select Export Data.
3. Review the data and features that can be moved. Once ready, click Export to Excel.
4. Then, follow the on-screen steps to complete the process.

However, if you want to use a different process for converting your data, you can visit the Apps Center to search for a third-party app that allows you to convert and move your data.

I have QB Pro2020 installed on my PC. Does this simplify or speed the download process of data from an existing QB online account?

Welcome to the Community! I appreciate you asking your question here. 

The best route would to be use the newest supported version of QuickBooks Desktop, which would be 2024. Anything later than 2021 version may have complications arise when performing the downloading process of the data.

You need to use a supported version to convert data (i.e 2022-2024). If you want to use your old QBD 2020, you can purchase a 3rd party conversion service. Contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for details.
