Importing IIF file

I am trying to import a file that contains information to create checks.

The third party app asks for the account name (100 - Checking) and the split account (500 - Tournament)

When I import the data it actually creates new accounts with those names because in QB the dash is actually a dot.

I have tried copy & paste but that does not work either.

Does any one know how to do the import?

The IIF file format expects only the actual account name - as seen in the "Account Name" field when you edit the account - not the number and name together.

If you use only the account name, new accounts won't be created if there is a match by name.

I tried that but it did not work.

It said that the data was imported, but I don't find it anywhere.

New accounts were not created and I even did a search for the payee name and it did not show up anywhere.
