Is there a way to work directly from the register? I need to add transactions to the AMEX card account.

It's good to see you here in the Community, qbtilley.

Let me share a way in adding bank transactions to your account register in QuickBooks Online.

Once you've already created an American Express account in your chart of accounts, you can connect it so that QuickBooks can automatically download transactions. Let me show you the step to connect an American Express account to QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. If you're connecting an account for the first time, choose Connect on the landing page. Or if you've already connected online banking accounts in the past, select Add Account.
  3. Search for and select American Express Business Credit Card. Then click on Continue.
  4. In the pop-up window, sign in with your American Express user ID and password. You'll see onscreen instructions if American Express requires additional security steps.
  5. Select the accounts you want to connect to QuickBooks.
  6. Choose the account type from the dropdown.
  7. Pick the date range for the download.
  8. Click on Connect.

After QuickBooks downloads your transactions, you need to approve the way they’re categorized. You can check out this article to guide you on how to categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

I'm adding this link as your reference in case you'll have trouble downloading transactions: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online.

I wanna make sure I got you covered. Please don't hesitate to get back to me if you still need further assistance. I'll be here to help. Have a great day!
