List of banks that work with DirectConnect

I have spent quite some time trying to find my own answer, and have been unsuccessful. I need to find a list of banks that work with QB Online and Desktop DirectConnect. I currently have BBVA and it works, but I need to change banks for a variety of reasons. I opened with Regions Bank, but it does not support QB Online at this time. Before I go and move all my business accounts again, I want to make sure I select the right bank that will work.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Thanks for reaching out, cdolajak.

I can provide a way to determine if your business's bank will be supported with QuickBooks Online DirectConnect. There currently isn't a lost of supported banks since new financial institutions are constantly being added. I would recommend checking out the Test Drive company. This QuickBooks Online file is accessible to anyone who is interested in testing out features and none of the information is saved after exiting. This will allow you to search for your bank to make certain it's supported before you subscribe. Here's how you can achieve this:

1. Access the QuickBooks Online Test Drive from the link here: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1426799-links-to-online-sample-companies-test-drive-quickbooks...
2. Select a test company based on your region.
3. Once you're in, click on the Banking tab on the left pane.
4. Select Add account and search for your bank.
5. As long as your bank appears on the list of search results, you'll know it's supported. Some banks track how many feeds you have connected to it, so be sure to only log in once you're in your own QuickBooks company.

I hope you find this information helpful. If you have any other questions for me, feel free to reach back out.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

I've been looking for the same answer before I open a new business account: Which banks support Quick Connect? QB support wants to initiate a consultation to discuss my business needs. I don't have time for that. Any information?

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Thanks for the information, Michael,

Maybe DirectConnect is not the correct term. As I understand it, most banks support a feed (one-way) into quickbooks but only some offer true two-way integration where I can trigger payments and transfers in Quickbooks that are actuated in the bank account. In the trial, per your suggestion, I can add some very small regional banks who I know do not support that kind of two-way integration. The purpose of my inquiry is to consider only banks that offer full two-way integration. Can you advise further?

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

I appreciate those additional details, cdolajak.

The banking feed set up by following the prior instructions is for bringing transactions from your bank statement into QuickBooks for seamless recording. DirectConnect sets up this communication with your bank to receive transaction data, but can't actuate transfers or payments. If it's actual money movement you're after, QBO offers a couple different solutions for this.

For Money-In transactions: You can receive payments on invoices you send using QuickBooks Merchant Services. This adds a Pay Now button to sales forms so your customers can send their money with credit card information or an ACH bank transfer. To get started with QuickBooks Payments, you can check out the link here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/payments/?sc=seq_intuit_pay_click_nav.

For Money-Out transactions: You can pay your bills in QuickBooks Online with Online Bill pay, powered by Bill.com. This allows you to send money to vendors and contractors directly from QBO with bank transfer or check. You can learn more about Online Bill pay with the info at this link: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1516839-online-bill-pay-paying-bills.

With either solution, you'll be prompted to enter bank information during set-up. This is the account that will be used to process these transactions, and any bank with an account and routing number is supported.

I hope this clears things up, thanks again for reaching out. I'll be here if there's anything else you need.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Hi Morgan,

This does clarify it somewhat; specifically "DirectConnect sets up this communication with your bank to receive transaction data, but can't actuate transfers or payments." Now, to my original question, how can I find out which banks support DirectConnect?

I'm asking again because it took me a 40 minute phone call today to find out that one bank does not. They, of course, directed me back to Quickbooks for the answer while transferring me from person to person until finally we found someone familiar with it who told me DirectConnect is not supported; only manual export is. Kudo's to everyone at Frost Bank in Texas, btw, for their great service. So, again, now that we know what DirectConnect is, can someone tell me which banks use it?

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Hey there.

To find out which banks are compatible with DirectConnect, you'd use the steps from this article for the Test Drive provided by MichaelDL:  https://community.intuit.com/articles/1426799-links-to-online-sample-companies-test-drive-quickbooks....

I tried it out and searched for Frost Bank which gave me three results: Frost Bank, Frost Bank (TX) - Invest Online, and Western National Bank (Now Frost Bank). However, if you have additional security measures, such as a token, the direct connection wouldn't be available.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

But you just demonstrated that this does not help determine which banks support DirectConnect. It only helps determine which banks support Web Connect. For example, we know that Frost does not support DirectConnect but this test says:

Yes! QuickBooks connects to your bank.

So based on this I would have opened an account at Frost only to find out that it actually won't connect via that method.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

This may give you an idea of my confusion. Here's something on BofA's website explaining Web Connect vs Direct Connect. Is it accurate? Or am I asking the wrong questions?

https://www.bankofamerica.com/smallbusiness/online-banking/quickbooks/how-to-download.go

Also found on that page (This is BofA's copy, not Quickbooks'):

"Direct Connect refers to the 2-way connectivity between Bank of America and your QuickBooks® software. Direct Connect allows you to access your account information, pay bills and transfer money from within QuickBooks®."

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Thanks for that info, cdolajak.

I'm unable to specify which banks support WebConnect, because it's bank specific information. This method would depend on if the bank in question supports the specific file downloads that are needed. A WebConnect is typically used if DirectConnect is not supported. This article provides more information if you choose this route: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1145233-upload-more-than-90-days-of-bank-transactions-through-....

As far as DirectConnect, the test is the only way to determine if a bank is supported. This is referred to as Direct Feed in QuickBooks Online. This write-up will give you a better idea of how this process works within QBO: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1297595-connecting-your-bank-account-to-quickbooks-via-direct-....

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Both the WebConnect and DirectConnect bank listings in the QuickBooks online demo are highly inaccurate.  I've had continuing issues with several banks (the most recent of which is Legacy Bank Texas) whereby Quickbooks claims that WebConnect is functional and the bank indicates that it is not.  Legacy Bank Texas recently revised their (commercial) banking web presence and, as a result, you can no longer access your banking information via QuickBooks.  However, QuickBooks still lists the Legacy Bank Texas (commercial) path as being functional.  This is a major detraction with QBO that has been consistently ignored from the Intuit support team.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

LegacyTexas changed their commercial banking about 2 weeks ago and it's been wrecking havoc with my bookeeping ever since.  No one at LegacyTexas will call me back about the issues, so I'll most likely be moving my business account elsewhere, which is frustrating.  Everything was working find, synching to my account.  Then one day, without warning, they change everything.  Very poor customer service.

Good morning @cdolajak

To get back to your original question, the answer was in one of our ProAdvisor "in the know" webinars.  It is basically your big dogs banks, IE, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase.

Hope that helps!

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Sheilae, I noticed this as well.  I revisited the banking setup for the "new" Legacy commercial banking linkage and I had the same issue (it fails).  Legacy does not officially support QBO direct links through their commercial banking login.  However, you *can* have them convert your commercial login to a personal login (the commercial login will remain active).  The personal login and the associated QBO direct connect path does, in fact, work.  The only thing you lose with the personal account login is direct wire transfer capabilities (only on the Legacy side).

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Lynda, that doesn't help at all.  Why does Quickbooks publish hundreds of disparate financial institutions as being supported when only the largest 1% of those are actually supported on both ends of the direct connect infrastructure?

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

@TCLAdmin

I guess you would have to ask Intuit about that.  I was just providing you an article I read in reference to the new bank connection.  I am sure it has to do with starting with the most popular, largest banks so the most users get the benefit of the new connection.  But that is speculation on my part as I do not work for Intuit.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Hey, cdolajak.                                 * * Pricing as of 17 October 2018 * *

Looks like Bank of America has what you're asking for (i.e., 2-way connectivity through Direct Connect) for an annoying $15 per month. They advertise this service as "Account Management" and is supposed to offer "seamless QuickBooks® integration." However, in order to purchase this service, you need to have one of their basic (Fundamentals®) business checking accounts that cost $14 per month. Although the $14 monthly fee can be avoided by meeting 1 of 6 conditions, you might as well consider it a $29 monthly expense.

Their higher tier (Advantage) checking account costs $29.95 per month but includes Account Management (no annoying $15 per month) and a few other perks. This account type also offers ways to avoid paying the monthly fee. Check out their comparison table here

I currently have one of their basic (Core®) accounts but the Account Management service is not an option for personal checking. So, I'm also looking for a list of banks and credit unions with more affordable QuickBooks® integration.

BB&T - https://www.bbt.com/online-access/financial-software/quickbooks.page $14.95/mo.

SunTrust - https://www.suntrust.com/small-business-banking/direct-connect $25/mo.

Well Fargo - https://www.wellsfargo.com/online-banking/software/fees/  $14.95/mo.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

I will share that I am as frustrated with this thread as anyone!  It's too bad an up-to-date list of banks that work with the full QB Direct connect cannot be maintained.  This is the digital information age and a real time list is NOT rocket science.  The only bank in our area that is fully integrated with direct connect is TD Bank.  Their office locations are a bit inconvenient to us for nightly deposits but...  they DO work fully with direct connect so we are reluctant to leave them.  They do not charge us any fees of any kind and our checking free.  Other than location, they are the perfect choice.  Too bad other banks do not catch on.

Im currently based in the UAE,Dubai would this mean quickbooks bank connect feature is unavailable to me? as per the rest fo your statement... I have clicked the banking tab and connect and found my bank applicable, does this mean quickbook bank connect is available towards me and my company and region?

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Hi everyone.

I can help share some information about the QuickBooks Online test drive.

If your region is not listed in the sample company test drive, you can use the free trial QBO account to check if this will allow you to search for your bank. In your case @Dylan Crasto, since you found your bank when clicking the banking tab, then yes that bank is applicable for your company and region.

You can use the test drive for trials to ensure that your bank will be supported with DirectConnect. However, for countries with specific VAT/Tax related and payrolls, this may not be applicable.

As always, you can contact our Online Care Support if you need assistance in going through the steps for your test drive.

Let me know if you have additional questions about the list of banks that work with DirectConnect. I'm here to help however I can.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

regardless of the answer i've spent almost a day traveling the bofa and quickbooks service universes and i'm no closer to two-way integration.  i've loaded payees in bofa online banking and they do not appear in quickbooks online.

let me know if you did actually figure out how to actually set up "direct connect" so i can actually pay bills and transfer funds from within quickbooks online; which would be great.

the only thing that would be better is if i could select vendors/payees in quickbooks to push out to bofa online banking.  from the way it has been explained to me i must set the payee up on the bofa side and it then gets pushed to quickbooks online.

Thanks for reaching out to us, timbiesek.

For now, we're still working with individual banks regarding the connection. If you're linking a new Bank of America account that is eligible for the new connection, you can link it normally. Please see article for more details: Bank Feeds Direct Connect FAQ

You can also contact our Phone Support Team by clicking the link provided by LilyC.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

Check with your accountant, every city will have different banks, some do a better job than others. For example in St Louis, PNC & US Bank do a nice job for our clients - but only for banking & bill pay. When it comes to credit cards, I like American Express & Citi for their direct connect features.

c:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks 20yy\Components\OLB\branding\filist\fidir.txt contains a list of directconnect options. You want to look for banks that include "BANKING,PAYMENT,ACCOUNTINFO&DIRECT" in their list of services. This file isn't perfect, for example USBank's listing includes "Credit", but I have yet to find a way to use direct connect to import my credit card transactions, so I stick with Citi & Amex.

Re: List of banks that work with DirectConnect

I am currently with Legacy Texas and direct connect is not working at all.  We cannot find a solution and I am about to change banks.  This is surely disappointing as the people at Legacy are very helpful.  The bank comes up on the list.

Hi trollcastle,

I would like to know more about your concern. When you tried to direct connect Legacy Texas have you encountered an error? If not, what will happen after doing direct connect?

You can check the attached article about the different Direct Connect FAQ.

I'll keep an eye of your response.
