Matching bank transactions

I have 2 payments recorded in QB for the same vendor: $49.20 & 7,704.00.  Bank made one lump sum payment of $7,753.20.  I downloaded the file through WebConnect and this transaction "needs my review".  When I select "Match to existing transactions" in the Action drop box, I see the $49.20 & 7,704.00, but I cannot figure out how to select the two transactions to match to the amount from the bank ($7,753.20).

Re: Matching bank transactions

Hi IG4,

There isn't an option to match a downloaded deposit to multiple transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

As a workaround, you'll have to create a one bill payment check to match the downloaded lump sum transaction in QuickBooks Desktop. I'm here to help and guide you through.

Let's delete the two bill payment checks and create a new one. Once deleted, go to Pay Bills, mark to select the two bills, and click on Pay Selected Bills. For your visual reference, please see attached screenshot.

Then, match the lump sum transaction to the bill payment check by following these steps:

  1. Go to Banking and hover your mouse to Bank Feeds.
  2. Choose Bank Feeds Center.
  3. In the Transactions List window, the lump sum transaction will automatically matches to the bill payment check.
  4. Click on the drop-down menu under Action, select View Details.
  5. Select Confirm this Match.

You can also check out this article that will provide more information: Add and match Bank Feed transactions.

After following these steps, you will be able to match the lump sum transactions to the bill payment in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know how it goes in the comment section. I'll keep an eye to your response. Have a good one.

I'll share your suggestion with our product development team, IG4.

Yes, matching a bank transaction to multiple QuickBooks transactions was recently launched in QuickBooks Online. This was based on suggestions, too.

If you have other questions about matching transactions, please let me know.

Re: Matching bank transactions

Thanks.  This makes sense.  I was hoping there is a way to match two bookings in QB to one payment from the bank feed and that I was just missing it.

Is there a suggestion board where we can post a proposed improvement - it seems like a logical request.  Or is it something that is unique to the Desktop version and the Online version already has this feature?
