Merge subaccounts with parent account

Hello,

I have a parent bank account that has around 10 sub bank accounts as this is how my boss wanted to keep track of how much funding we had available for each project.  He no longer wants to manage it this way so I need to combine them into one account. How do I merge all of the subaccounts back into the parent bank account?  I can not just rename them to the parent bank account name as there is an error that says you can not combine subaccounts and main accounts.

Merge subaccounts with parent account

I'd be glad to share some steps. Kopa.

Before you start merging the accounts in QuickBooks, here are a few reminders:

For your situation, you'll want to un-link the sub-accounts to the parent account first. Doing so will make the sub-accounts as parent accounts.

Here's how:

  1. Go to List > Chart of Accounts.
  2. Right-click on the sub-account and select Edit Account.
  3. Un-check the Subaccount of box, then click Save & Close.

Then, you can proceed with merging the accounts by following these steps:

  1. In the Chart of Accounts page, copy the name of the parent account that you would like to keep.
  2. Right-click the name of the sub-account that you would like to merge, then select Edit Account.
  3. Replace the account name, then click Save & Close.
  4. Click Yes when you get a prompt to merge the account. Note: If you receive a prompt saying "You cannot merge an account that has online information associated with it into another account" This means you have bank feeds activated that needs to be deactivated.
