It will be my pleasure to help you get to the bottom of this and make sure you're able to retrieve your account to reconcile, @vlygrl138.

Before we start, may I know what kind of transaction you're trying to create and the account in question to reconcile? I'll also appreciate it if you can share a few screenshots. This way, I can share specific resolutions to your concern.

In the meantime, I recommend accessing your QuickBooks Online account via incognito or private browsing mode. Usually, this sort of hurdle is often the result of browser hang-ups that you can quickly resolve by clearing the browser cache. That said, we can verify if the system or browser caused this behavior.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts that will help you accomplish this in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

From there, you can check if the account to reconcile is present. If it's there, it's good to clear your regular browser's cache. By doing so will clean historical memory data from your browser and improves its browsing performance.

Alternatively, you can sign in to QuickBooks from other supported browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome to reconcile an account.

Please feel free to post again if you have other concerns about reconciling an account in your chart of accounts. I'll make sure to help. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the day!

My account is there to reconcile but I try to enter a new transaction and the account is not there

Hi there,

I may not have been clear in my initial post. My accounts are all there to reconcile; however, when I try to enter a check or deposit , that account is not there. It is a credit card account.

I even tried to go into private mode, with no such luck.

Thanks for coming back to this forum, @vlygrl138.

Joining the thread to share some insights about this topic. To explain further, what's happening is working as designed.

When you create a check or deposit, the system will only accept bank accounts or other current assets. This is the reason why you can't add a credit card account in there.

To create an expense to be paid with a credit card, you can use the Expense or Bills options in QuickBooks. I'm adding these links to help you further:

If you have other concerns with our program besides this expense processing concern, please post here again. We are more than happy to help you out. Have a lovely day and stay safe!

Hi Jan,

I was literally able to do this for so many years; it just stopped working today.

Thanks for adding more details about your concern, @vlygrl138.

I’m here to ensure you can enter a check and post it on your credit card account. Let me route you in the right direction to resolve the issue.

In situations like this, we’ll have to connect you to our QuickBooks Online (QBO) Care Team. They have extra tools to help trace why you’re unable to select a credit card account. Also, our specialists will guide you on how to apply the permanent solution.

Here’s how:

  1. Press the Help icon at the top to open the QB Assistant window.
  2. In the Assistant tab, enter the issue/topic in the field box.
  3. Click the Get help from a human link and follow the on-screen steps to complete the process.
  4. From the support options, select Chat or Callback.

For future reference, let me share these articles that tackle how to manage deposits and create checks. From there, you’ll learn about combining transactions with a bank deposit and print a check.

Click the Reply button and add a comment below if you have additional questions about recording transactions or reconciling an account. I’m more than happy to answer them for you. Wishing you and your business continued success.
