Hi there, BrookeT.

Banks make changes to their website from time to time. Good thing you noticed this. I'll guide you to do some updates in your QuickBooks for Mac.

Since your bank changed its page, there's a possibility that they also changed its URL. It's the web address at the top that usually starts with https://. Therefore, you'll want to disconnect your bank, update the Financial Institution (FI) list in QuickBooks so it captures the new URL, and then reconnect your account.

I just want to set your expectation that if your bank just made their changes, I can't guarantee that QuickBooks will have the latest URL in the FI list. So, there's a chance that you won't be able to connect right now, but you can try again in a few days.

First, manage all the transactions that are still left unreviewed in your Bank Feeds section.

Second, disconnect your bank account:

  1. Go to Lists and then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Highlight the account and select the pencil icon to edit.
  3. Select Online Settings.
  4. In the Download Transactions drop-down menu, select Not enabled.
  5. Select OK to confirm, then select OK to close the window.

Third, Update your Financial Institution list a.k.a. Financial Institution Directory (FiDir).

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Open the User\Library\Application Support\QuickBooks\Downloads folder, and keep it in view.
  3. Delete the FIDir.txt and FI.Blueprint.xml files.
  4. Open QuickBooks.
  5. Observe the User\Library\Application Support\QuickBooks\Downloads folder. You should see both FIDir.txt and FI.Blueprint.xml after the Patcher disappears. They are replaced with new data after reopening QB.

Fourth, re-connect your bank account using Direct Connect. If you're unable to connect now, you can follow the instructions to upload Web Connect files (if your bank supports it). Or, just leave it as it is and try again in a few days.

Please let me know how the steps work for you. I'll be here if you need further assistance.

Would this be the same solution for QB 2020?

Hi there, @HR513.

Yes, the solution provided by my colleague @JessT would also work uploading your  bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. Let me add some information on how to disconnect your account from Bank Feeds.

 Here's how:

  1. Go to Lists and then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Right-click the account you want to deactivate. Then select Edit Account.
  3. Go to the Bank Settings tab.
  4. Select Deactivate all online services and then OK to confirm.
  5. Select Save & Close.
