My quickbooks stopped downloading from American Express

Let's check what happened to your AMEX connection, DrBR.

You can click the Update button to manually download your transactions. Then, please let us know if you get an error or nothing happens.

If you get an error, you can search it in the Community or within the (?)Help window in QuickBooks to find its troubleshooting steps. Or, you can go back to this thread and we'll help you find the steps to resolve it.

If there's no error, you can log in to your bank account using a browser. Then, check to see if there are maintenance updates. If none, please download your transactions in a Web Connect file and upload them to the Banking page. Then, you'll want to contact our Phone or Chat team to investigate it further.

To reach them:

  1. Click (?)Help and select Contact us.
  2. Enter something like, "AMEX transactions are not downloaded since last week."
  3. Click on Let's talk.
  4. Choose from Message an agent or Talk to a specialist.

We're always here to help you with your AMEX connection. Feel free to always reach out to us in the Community.

My quickbooks stopped downloading from American Express

Hello I use QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2020 and was able to download Amex transactins fine.  No longer.  Has QB Desktop stopped the feature of downloading Amex transactions??

Hi there, scwolfpack.

QuickBooks Desktop still have the option or feature to download Amex transactions.  I suggest updating your bank manually to refresh the connection between QuickBooks and your financial institution. This way, you're able to see the downloaded transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Hover over Bank Feeds and select Banking Feeds Center.
  3. Click the Refresh accounts button.

If the issue persists, I recommend manually importing those transactions in QBDT. Before we start, we'll have to consider that we can't import QFX or QIF Quicken files into QuickBooks Desktop. We can only import Web Connect files into QuickBooks Desktop. These files have a .qbo extension at the end of the file name.

You can follow the steps below in uploading the file to QBDT:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Select File from the top bar menu.
  3. Choose Utilities then Import.
  4. Select Web Connect Files.
  5. Locate the QBO file you saved, then click Open.
  6. When prompted to select a bank account, select Use an existing QuickBooks account.
  7. Click Continue, then hit OK.
  8. You can go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

Once done, you can now categorize your bank transactions.
