Need to change bank user id, trying to disconnect bank feeds, getting error message

A few weeks ago my client received a notice that his user id with the bank was not an acceptable user id (too short).  We changed the user id at the bank, and have no further issues from the bank.  I can log into the bank account without any issues from a browser.

When I attempted to download banking information in 2020 QBDT Premier - Contractor Edition (today) I received an OL-209 error.  I then realized that I had not changed the user id in Quickbooks for that bank account.

I made the change and attempted to download transactions again and received the same error message.

I then attempted to disconnect Bank Feeds for that account (and a credit card account), but received the following error message:

You cannot make changes to the online information for this account because there is a payment service update pending.  Please go to Bank Feeds and update your payment service

I have looked at Bank Feeds and there are no pending updates that I can see.  I have also checked for automatic transactions, and there are none.

I talked with QBDT Support and they sent me the following document:

Fix OL and OLSU Bank Feeds errors in Quickbooks Desktop

I had already gone through most of the steps but can't get by Step 4, # 4 because I can't deactivate all online services.

The solution I was given by support was to spend $300 for an annual support back, which I find totally unacceptable.

Worse case, we will start entering checks by hand and just give up on Bank Feeds but I would prefer not to.

I'm looking for suggestions on what steps to take next.

Thanks

EJ

Let me make it up to you, EJ. I'll help you fix the banking issue.

We have different steps to fix issues when you deactivate online banking. Before doing the process, let's ensure to create a backup copy to avoid data loss.

Then, you can follow the steps in this article to help you fix the issue: Fix issues when deactivating bank feeds.

Once you're disconnected, you can follow the remaining steps to fix the OL-209 error.

Feel free to let us know if you need more help with this. We're just one comment away. Take care!

Need to change bank user id, trying to disconnect bank feeds, getting error message

Kristine -

Thank you for the information, but I did find that document (after my original post), but unfortunately, I couldn't make it work.

I used the windows solution for exporting the chart of accounts as an IIF file and then opened it in Excel, made the changes to remove the bank feed info, save it, then imported it into Quickbooks DT again.

The import worked BUT I received 11 errors, and 4 of those errors were the online bank information.  I didn't know what to try after that.

After reviewing what I just did I saved the file as a txt file (that's what Windows defaulted to) and I'm wondering if I had saved it as a csv file. if the outcome would be different.  I have had a chance to go back and try but I will.

Anything you can suggest to help I certainly appreciate.

Thanks

EJ

Need to change bank user id, trying to disconnect bank feeds, getting error message

I appreciate you for sharing additional info in your attempt to resolve the issue, @GolfNut72.

I'd recommend reaching out to your bank's support with a copy of your Bank Feeds log. The logs can help pinpoint the failure. All Financial Institutions (FI) that currently support QuickBooks Online Banking have an escalation path to the Online Connectivity Group at Intuit. You can ask the bank representative to escalate your case to them. Make sure to take note of your case/ticket #.

@GolfNut72

Utilize the trial version of Moneythumb Online to isolate the issue. It is designed to import into any bank or credit card in QuickBooks Desktop, so there is no specific setting needed. If the same error persists, there is an ongoing problem at your bank.

Thank you for the suggestion but after checking the software out, I couldn't figure out how to use the free version to connect to the bank.  It asked for bank statements, and not for an online connection.

Did I miss something?

Need to change bank user id, trying to disconnect bank feeds, getting error message

Thank you to everyone that offered me support and suggestions on how to resolve this issue.

It has been resolved and it was a two-step process.

!. I deactivated the bank feeds for that bank.  While this did create a problem, it was resolved by quitting QBDT and rebooting the computer.  When I logged into QBDT again, I was able to remove the bank feeds from the two accounts in question.

I then went to the bank and had to re-register the account, because it had a new login name.

Once I re-registered the account I was able to activate bank feeds again, and everything now works as it should.

Again, many thanks.
