Not able to match a bank transaction to a QBO payment refund

I have a customer that paid using QBO payment. We then had to refund the payment, so this was also done via QBO payment. I can see the invoice, payment and refund on the customer (and also in undeposited funds).

I downloaded the transactions from the bank and the QBO payment was matched to the original customer payment. In the same download I also see the refunded amount from Intuit in the Spent column, but it did not automatically match to the refund, and it is not allowing me to manually find the refund to match it to. Hope this makes sense, it's my first post.

Not able to match a bank transaction to a QBO payment refund

Thanks for sharing the detailed information about your concern, @BeckyC70.

It could be that the refund receipt wasn't created or added yet in your Chart of Accounts. This is the reason you're unable to match it to your downloaded bank transaction.

If you want to create a match for it, we can create a refund receipt in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Here's how:

  1. Click the +New icon and select Refund Receipt.
  2. Fill out the information, then make sure that the dates, amount, and bank account is correct.
  3. Click Save and close.

However, you'll also have the option to simply add this transaction to QuickBooks. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transaction menu and select Banking.
  2. In the For Review tab, look for the refund and click Add.

To more about on how you can categorize and match your downloaded bank transactions in QBO, you can check out this article: Categorize and match online bank transactions.

Also, if you're about to reconcile your account, I recommend checking the steps provided in this article so you'll be guided: Reconcile an account in QBO.
