Our bank deposited our cash deposit into wrong company account then withdrew the same amount. How do I categorize these 2 transactions

Do I use the banks name for the Vendor or should I use the Owners name for the Vendor?

Hello, user94886.

I take it that the vendor deposited cash to your company account. In this case, you'll want to use the owner's name for the vendor. I'm more than happy to help you with the steps.

You have two options in handling the deposit. The first one is to simply disregard the incorrect deposit and just record the correct entry. On the Bank deposit screen, select the correct bank account under Account (the drop-down menu, not the column).

Though, if you want to include the incorrect deposit, you'll want to create bank deposit first then make a transfer.

  1. Click the + New button, then choose Bank deposit.
  2. Select the incorrect company account under Account.
  3. Choose the vendor (or owner) profile under RECEIVED FROM
  4. Add the amount, then include other important details.
  5. Once done, click Save and close

Create a transfer:

  1. On the + New button menu, select Transfer this time.
  2. Select the wrong company account under Transfer Funds From
  3. Under Transfer Funds to, choose the correct bank account.
  4. Enter the same amount then click Save and close
