problem with QBO file importing to Bank Center

My bank switched from Netteller to Q2 (i think) and now my QBO files are useless.  I can download and upload the file fine, but when it populates in Bank Center there is just a string of number for the transaction and no way of identifying who it is with, neither can QB.

problem with QBO file importing to Bank Center

I'm determined to ensure you can import your transactions, @Jackasic.

You can only import web connect (.QBO) files to QuickBooks Desktop. Make sure the file you download from your bank is a .qbo file. Otherwise, you can use a converter tool to change it into a .qbo file.

If you stumble into an issue while importing your data, I suggest reviewing notifications from your bank. Sign in to your bank’s website and check your messages. If you don't see one, move on to Step 4 in this article: Fix Web Connect import errors

Furthermore, here's an article you can read for more details: Import web connect (.qbo) files.

Please come back to this thread if you need more help with importing your bank transactions. We're always happy to help.

thanks, you answered none of my questions.  the problem is the QBO file isn't yielding any useful data.  see the attached file in the first post.

thanks you answered none of my questions.  the problem is the QBO file is yielding nothing but numbers in the "name" field, so I cant determine who the transaction was with.

I'll make sure that you accurately import your transactions, Jackasic.

Please know that QuickBooks relies on the data that was sent from your financial institution. This string of numbers showing in the file might be caused by the migration from Netteller to Q2.

To isolate the issue, you can sign in to your bank's website and then follow their instruction to download your transactions as a QBO file. Once done, import the it to your company to check if the payee name and other transaction details are showing correctly. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Choose Bank Feeds, then select Import Web Connect Files.
  3. Select the QBO file you saved, then click Open.
  4. Choose Use an existing QuickBooks account, then hit Continue..
  5. Click OK, once you see a dialogue box telling you that the data has been successfully read into QuickBooks.

After that, head to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions. If the same thing happens, I'd recommend reaching out to your bank so they investigate the issue and help you identity the payee of each transaction.

I'm also adding these articles to help categorize your online banking transactions and reconcile your bank accounts:

still have this problem.

The issue seems to be that QB limits the characters in the "downloaded as" column to about 32.  If I download the file as CSV file, all the data is there.

Is there a reasonable way to convert a qbo file from a csv?  the only things I have seen out there are $200+ a year for the software. If I am going to do that I'm going to dump QB and just convert everting to Odoo.

Thanks for getting back to us, @Jackasic.

I have some information about the Bank Feed Center. Currently, there isn't a way for us to increase the display characters of the downloaded transaction in the Bank Feed Center.

You can convert the .QBO file into a CSV file outside of QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Open the .qbo file on your computer.
  2. On the Save as type, choose CSV
  3. Click Save

On the other hand, I'll note of your idea so our developers will know that this is something that they need to consider updating. Rest assured they're working diligently to enhance the product and deliver the best experience for all QuickBooks users

You can also send a product suggestion by going to Help, Send Feedback Online, and then selecting Product Suggestion.

I'm also attaching link here in case you need help managing bank-related tasks. It contains topics with articles. Just choose the one that fits your concern: Find help with bank feeds and reconciling accounts.

Please know that you're always welcome to swing by if you have other questions or concerns with downloaded transactions. I'll be around to help. Have a good one.

thanks for the reminder.  When I went to that site (one of three software packages I found), I just saw the monthly subscriptions.  Took a little digging but i found what you were pointing me to.
