Join nowWe just started using a credit card. We always pay the credit card in full each month. Here is an example and my questions. Received credit card statement 4/10/20. Due by 5/10/20. We enter purchases on the statement showing the date of purchase, amount and from whom. Purchases are from month 3 and 4. We reconcile the normal checking account and then reconcile the Credit card account and pay the total amont due. This payment is made on month 4. My questions are: 1) is this the right time to reconcile the Credit card? 2) What month will the credit card purchases show up in? Will they all show up in month 4? We are working on a cash basis.
Thanks, any suggestions on a better way of doing this would be appreciated.
Let me provide answers to your questions here in the Community space, @pw9.
For your first question, the right time to reconcile the payment that you've made depends on you. Mostly, reconciliation is done at regular intervals, such as monthly or quarterly, or every end of statement end date as part of normal accounting procedures.
For your second and third concern, the credit card purchases will show depending on the transaction date when it was posted. Since your using a cash basis method of accounting, the payment that you've made will automatically reflect in the bank register.
In addition, I've included a guideline on how you can properly reconcile your accounts in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT): Learn reconcile an account in QBDT.
