I'll share some information about handling bank transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
No, the transaction won't create a duplicate on your bank register page. QuickBooks suggests the match feature in your bank feeds to match the downloaded transaction with the one you already entered. This links them together so you don't get doubles.
Here's how:
For more information, check out this article: Categorize and match online bank transactions.
After that review your bank register to see how the transaction looks like after matching the data.
I've also added pages that might help you in adding account numbers, reconciling accounts, and other topics.

Thank you for your response. I followed your directions, but when I checked the bank register, a duplicate entry had been made.
The first entry says that the $ amount was a "payment" categorized as "accounts receivable." The duplicate entry from the match process says that the $ amount is a "deposit" categorized as "income."
Why didn't QB link the two entries as a single payment/deposit? How do I correct this going forward, as I have several more items to match?
I'm here to help you prevent bank transactions from duplicating, kelly102.
QuickBooks Online is dependent on what your financial institution shares with us. To avoid this, I'd suggest double-checking the transactions before adding them to your register. Also, manually updating the bank account can cause duplicate transactions.
To fix these duplicate entries, let's undo these transactions.
Once done, the transactions will go back to the For Review tab. You can exclude and delete them to avoid confusion in the future. I'll guide you how.
