Quickbooks Desktop bank feeds imports memo as Empty

On Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2018 it seems like some update with in the past several months has made all transactions imported via bank feeds import with a memo of Empty. In the Transaction List windows, when I click on the Show Bank Memo checkbox, it shows all the memo's as Empty. When I add the transactions, they show up in the register with a memo of Empty.

I tried on my end, but I wasn't able to get the same results that you're getting. I also check if there's an ongoing issue about this but, there isn't currently one.


I highly suggest checking your bank to see if they have some issue that causing the memo field empty. If ever the bank don't have any problems, you can reach out to our QuickBooks Customer Care Team.  They have additional tools, such as screen-sharing, to see what's causing this to happen with the bank feeds. 


Here's how to contact them: 

  1. Go to the Help menu located in the upper right corner.
  2. Hit QuickBooks Desktop Help. 
  3. Click Contact Us, then enter your concern in the description field and click Continue


    4. Choose either Start messaging or Get a Callback.

I have the same issue. If I use the Web Connect file from my bank and import it into QuickBooks Desktop then the bank register shows the memos. If I use the direct connect and review/accept the transactions, the memos are not present on my QB Desktop bank register/transactions.  The memo field shows as null/empty/blank.

When connecting a bank account via direct feeds, the information downloaded into the system will depend on the data shared by your financial institution. I suggest contacting your bank first to determine if the details from the Memo field should also download in QuickBooks Desktop.


Web Connect files follow a specific format that includes this type of information along the importing process. That said, details such as the memo details will show on your bank register.

Quickbooks Desktop bank feeds imports memo as Empty

I am also having the same problem in Quickbooks Premier 2018.  I download the transactions from my bank and credit card websites into the Bank Feeds.  But then I manually type in a memo on the description and save it.  If I reopen that transaction in the register, the memo that I just typed is gone.  The memo field is blank.  It is clearly a problem on the QB side since it happens with every bank or credit card that I use.  Are there any other suggested ways to fix this problem?  It defeats the purpose of downloading the transactions if you have to go back into them to re-enter information.
