At least once per week, one of my Quickbooks Online profiles starts updating all the bank accounts and never stops. I can log out, change browsers, etc. Doesn't help. It goes into a never ending loop.
This goes on for hours and sometimes days. Puts all the business finances on hold until it resolves.
Note: this is NOT a single account. It's ALL the accounts after clicking the UPDATE button in the Banking tab. Disconnecting a single account is not the solution.
This has been reported myriad times over the past 1.5 years. (Three I found in a quick search listed below.) I have also been on live chat to fix it. No solutions and no fixes. I just have to wait for it to resolve on its own.
Please provide a real solution or fix the bug.
Hi there, ProSapien.
I appreciate you for sharing detailed information about your concern and what you've done to fix it. I'll be providing details on how connecting bank accounts in QuickBooks Online works. Then, to ensure you can perform an alternative way to achieve your goal.
When you connect your bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), it's set up for automatic refresh. This means your bank updates once every 24 hours. One of the recommended options to stop the auto-updates is to disconnect your online bank account from QuickBooks.
Then, you can upload your bank transactions manually in QuickBooks. This way, you can choose which transactions you want to appear in the QBO. You may open this article to see the steps on how to accomplish the process: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.
Lastly, you may refer to this article to view details on how you can reconcile your accounts so they always match your bank and credit card statements to avoid discrepancies: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
If you need any additional assistance while managing your bank transactions, you can leave a comment below. I'll be sure to get back to you.
Hello:
Thanks for the reply. I would ask you, please to read my specific question. It addresses a BUG that many others have reported for at least 1.5 years and still occurs for me about once per week.
>>>I'll be providing details on how connecting bank accounts in QuickBooks Online works.<<<
I know how it works. That wasn't my question.
>>When you connect your bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), it's set up for automatic refresh.<<
My question wasn't about automatic refresh. It was about when I click the UPDATE button, it begins the refresh process, but doesn't ever stop.
>>>Then, you can upload your bank transactions manually in QuickBooks.<<
I don't want to manually upload the transactions. This doesn't address the bug in the software.
>>Lastly, you may refer to this article to view details on how you can reconcile your accounts<<<
I have known how to reconcile bank accounts for nearly five decades. This has nothing to do with my question.
Let me get the help you need about your banking concern, ProSapien.
To start, can you verify the name of the bank accounts that don't stop when updating? Any additional information will get us closer to the resolution and check if there's an open investigation about this.

I am having this same problem and wondering if you ever got it resolved or just had to wait for the "looping" to stop?
I am also experiencing this issue. This is the first time for me though. I've logged out, cleared cache and cookies, switched browsers... it's just in infinite update mode
Same problem here. I think QB Online makes code changes and doesn't do a good job of testing their updates. This then breaks things and they don't fix it until it is reported.
QB needs much stronger QC...

As I noted in my original question, this isn't a single, problematic bank account. it is ALL the accounts.
"At least once per week, one of my Quickbooks Online profiles starts updating all the bank accounts and never stops."
When the update begins, it doesn't complete. ALL the accounts are updating. Is your suggestion that I disconnect ALL the bank account (while they are in the process of updating) and then try to reconnect them?
Hello ProSapien,
Thanks for clarifying there! Yes, let's go ahead and disconnect all the bank accounts and reconnect them regardless of the process still updating. Please share the results below once you have done that, and we can take it from there! I will be looking out to your response. Take care in the meantime.
I noticed that the ajax queries were receiving a 403 error in the background. This has stopped now and the accounts finish loading. I think there was a backend issue with the DNS that was the root of my issue.
I'm glad it seems like it's cleared up, pdx971. Thank you for sharing that with us! I genuinely appreciate it. Know that if you have any other issues from now on, my team and I are always here to help you! I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!
I'm getting the same issue. Bank accounts just saying "updating" constantly.
