When you describe Lightning bolt, asterisk and checkmark, that isn't in Banking Feeds; that is in the Register view, in the QB file. These are Entries that Exist. Not Bank Feeds. Let's understand how to Use that status:

 

"Trying to find solution to original post I discovered that many transactions in my bank ledger do in fact have the lightning bolt.  I don't understand this."

 

That means "pre-reconciled" or Confirmed by using Banking Feed. When you next reconcile, hit the Matched button. There is then a pop up for "statement end date" so that it will use only those Lightning Bolts that fall on the Statement you are using. Now they are Checkmarks. All Done at once, for you.

 

"Until about 6 months ago the only way that I"m aware of my account connecting electronically was with payroll updates."

 

There are:

 

Program Updates from the Help menu.

Payroll Updates for the tax table service.

Online Banking tools providing connectivity for financial institutions.

Etc.

 

"I've researched a way to avoid all the data entry primarilary with credit card expenses entered into quickbooks credit card accounts but so far again no big changes other than trying apps like Mint to see if they could help."

 

QB supports your Card Provider, if your Card Provider supports QB. You don't need More tools, such as Mint.

 

"Specifically how is my quickbooks desktop  2017 verifying a transaction I manually made into my bank account ledger with the bank account data?"

 

Edit that Bank account; someone enabled Online Banking.

 

"Typically when I go to the electronic bank account i tell it that i only want to download the statement but the last time I think i mistakenly let it download a greater number of days."

There are different troubleshooting steps that we can do to fix the Bank Feeds issues. You can follow the processes below:

  1. Update QuickBooks Desktop release version. It will keep the software components compatible with your system.
  2. Do the Verify and Rebuild Data process. This will fix any data-integrity issues that might be preventing you to connect successfully.
  3. Close and reopen the program. This refresh the program and apply all the updates made earlier.

After that, you can try matching the bank transactions to the existing ones again.

You have the option to manually update your QuickBooks Desktop so you can get back on track in matching your transactions.

 

First off, some errors in your QuickBooks can be caused by the current version you're using. Thus, updating it to the latest release fix some bugs and issues you have encountered.

 

But please know that you'll have to create a backup copy of your company file first before updating your QuickBooks software.

My Quickbooks gets updated automatically, but I did manually update to be sure, and I did "Verify Data", which showed no issues. I'm not finding any information about what to try with this error in Quickbooks. Someone else had this issue, but I found no resolution in the thread. When I click the scroll arrow, I can see that data in cut off line is scrolling, but I can't see but an edge of one line. The list of transactions is hidden in the broken section of the window of Match to Existing Transactions..
