Can I import my Quickbooks desk top 2009 back up file into my online account? I have the back up file but the desktop computer it was on has died!

So to be clear, I have the back up data but not access to the program on my desktop. I have created a new online QB account.

You may have 2 options:

1. Install the trial license of QBD 2011 and 2015 to convert your company file prior to opening it on the trial license of QBD 2021. Then you will be able migrating to QBO.

Yes, you can import your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2009 backup file to QuickBooks Online (QBO) through an updated QBDT trial account. I'm here to guide you on how.

First, download a free trial account of the updated version of QBDT. Then, restore the backup file from there. If your backup company file is on an external device like a USB or a hosting service like Box, you'll need to move it to your local hard drive first. Then follow the steps.

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Click Restore a backup copy, then Next.
  3. Tap Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
  5. Choose a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.
  6. When you're ready, select Save. If you see any messages about possibly overwriting your data, select the option that best fits your needs. Don't overwrite anything unless you know you want to.

Once completed, you're now ready to migrate your data to QBO. You can use this article as your guide: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

As you start working with QBO, you can as well open the topics from our help articles in case you need related resources in the future.
