Duplicate transactions from chase

I just had the problem occur again, where many charges (approx. 60 from August-November, randomly dispersed) came back through as duplicates.  Why did this occur and how has this problem been solved.  I can;t imagine how this has been such an issue for such a large accounting software co.  What is the best number to call to discuss how/why this occurs and get assurances it will not continue to be a problem?

Duplicate transactions from chase

Hi boydhar,

Thanks for joining us in this thread. I'm here to address your concern with online banking.

The information we receive is dependent upon what your Financial Institution shares with us. I have looked into this further and at this time there's no reported issue affecting other users.

As a workaround, you can exclude duplicates by batch in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Just select them on the Banking page, click on the Batch actions drop down, and choose Exclude Selected.

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Go to Help.
  3. Click on Contact us.
  4. Enter your questions or concerns and click on Let's talk.
  5. Choose either Start a chat or Get a callback.

From there, one of our agents will be able to assist you further.

I am also experiencing the same issue (duplicate transactions from Chase). I just finished a call with Intuit customer support and was told that there is no workaround.

  4. Go to the For Review tab.

Thanks for the suggestion. But as reported back in November by another user, “simply excluding the duplicates is not fixing the problem and the balances are all off.” For example, deleting duplicates income transactions has no effect (does not reduce) the total income as calculated by QuickBooks, which continues to recognize the duplicate amounts even after deletion. Is there a fix and/or workaround so that the total income and total expenses reflect the correct amounts?

Thanks,

Greg

Thanks for getting back to us, Greg.

Are you referring to the QuickBooks total balance in the Banking menu? If so, excluding all the transactions in the For Review tab won't affect the balance since they're not yet added to QuickBooks.

If they're already been added, you can either undo or delete them directly on the register.

To undo:

1. Go back to the Banking menu at the left pane.
2. Select the Banking tab.
3. Go to the Reviewed tab.
4. Put a checkmark in the duplicate transactions, then click Undo under Action.

Once done, they'll go back to the For Review tab.

To exclude:

1. Go to the For Review tab.

2. Put a check mark on the transactions you undo.

3. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Batch actions.

4. Pick Exclude Selected.

To delete them on the register, here's how:

1. Click the Gear icon at the upper right.
2. Pick Chart of Accounts under Your Company.
3. Select View register under Action.
4. Locate and click the duplicate transactions.
5. Choose Delete and hit Yes to confirm.

For additional information, consider checking out this article: Assign, categorize, edit, and add your downloaded banking transactions.

While the investigation (INV-32700) for this issue is still ongoing, rest assured that, that you'll receive an email notification once it's done with a resolution. I'll also update you in this post as well.

Please keep me posted if you have any additional issues or concerns. I'm more than happy to answer them. Take care always!

We are having the same exact issue causing all our balances to be completely off. This is unacceptable.

So we need to go through thousands of duplicate transactions deleting them one by one?

I understand your situation, @abichara06.

As my colleague FritzF stated above, you can exclude them if you haven't added them to your register. However, you've already added them in your register, you'll need to delete them one by one. This way, you can review each transaction before deleting them.

To delete them in your register, you can refer to the steps provided by my colleague

Also, I recommend reaching out to your accountant for further advice on doing this. This way, you'll be guided accordingly.

I'm also adding these great articles that you can check for additional reference:

Also, I've got you this great article that can help guide you in reconciling your accounts in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account: Reconcile Accounts in QuickBooks Online.

If you have other questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to us. I'll be around to help.

Duplicate transactions from chase

I just discovered today that I would have to manually go through every one of my transactions on Quickbooks to balance my account.  The skewed numbers have impacted business decisions that I have made this entire year.  I cannot understand 1)  Why I was not notified that this could be an issue  2)  Why in this thread it was stated by Quickbooks that the issue was resolved when it is not and  3) How I recoup all of the fees I have paid this year to Quickbooks in order to pay for the accounting fees and other mounting costs I will now have to pay because of the misinformation, lack of notification, and accounting software that doesn't account for anything.

Hello

I am the initiator of the original post regarding this problem.  This has been a problem for over a year.  It is clear they are not going to fix it.  I believe that the effort is to move people over to QB online, as that is a recurring revenue play.  The idea that QB would provide guidance to "delete the duplicates" is really astounding.  If you were to tell an auditop that you are regularly deleting transactions, get ready for more questions. The fact that somewhere last summer the moderator claimed this was fixed is equally astounding.  Unfortunately, QB is one of the most compatible for other platforms.  I have mitigated the problem by carefully downloading ONLY transactions from a specific time period, and I do not download the current date.  I leave a 5 business day gap, so as not to miss transactions that may be delayed, and therefore missed, if you were to download up to and including the current date.  Hope this helps, as QB will not.

I just gave this feedback to their survey.  Not that it will matter...

The reason the forum is not for me, or anyone else, is because the people who work for QB are incompetent. The issue of duplicate transactions from Chase is over a year old. Read your own thread. The answers are garbage. An accounting software company recommending to delete transactions. The level of support is terrible, and the moderators answering are really giving unintelligent answers.

Just had this problem occur for me and it is hugely frustrating for me to see that it's been a whole year since the issue has been brought up and the QB Robo-Admin just give the same stock responses that do not work, repeatedly. Unfortunately, I believe you are spot on as far as following the money on the different platforms. Disappointing. Sorry you've had to struggle with this for the past year, but appreciate your persistence with them and updating this thread.

I'm really struggling and have been for several months because of this issue of duplicate Chase bank transactions yet to be reviewed. I've lost hours of time hunting down duplicates, because sometimes two different transactions DO have all of the same details, and I can't just exclude one of two transactions because the amounts match.

I switched to QBO from Xero on my bookkeeper's advice, but without a solution to this issue of duplicates I'm definitely dropping QBO. Blows my mind that this issue hasn't been fixed.

Its 2023.  I'm a new QBO customer.  I am having the same issue with credit card transactions being duplicated within QBO between two cards associated with the same credit account.  Is a solution actually forthcoming on this issue?  I understand the exclude workaround, but I will not remain a QBO customer if this is the only solution.  Please provide some detail into what the engineers are actually working on, and what the timeline is for a true resolution.  Thank you.
