Hi, I recently subscribed to QuickBook online. My accountant gave me a backup file from Peachtree. What is the best way I can import that in to QB online?

Note: I don't have access to Sage 50 or Peachtree.

Thank you for subscribing QuickBooks Online, guna-govind.

You can use the QuickBooks Conversion Tool to convert data from Sage 50 (formerly Peachtree) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Please refer to this article: Use Sage or Peachtree conversion tool for instructions and detailed steps to guide you with the process.

If you don't have QBDT, use the trial links so you can download and install the program. Our QuickBooks Desktop Technical Team can also walk you through installing it if you need further assistance.

Here's how to get in touch with them:

  1. On the sample QBDT file, click the Help menu, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Continue.
  4. We’ll provide you a few support options. Select which one is best for you.

After that, you can move the QBDT file to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Let me know if you need additional information, and I'm always around to help ensure your success.

You can try converting it on trial license of Pro 2020 as mentioned by MaryLandT .

The following information is not converted:

  • Bank Reconciliation (You will need to do a single bank reconciliation after the conversion. You should know how to do this.)
  • Paychecks are converted as Journal Entries (Importing Paychecks is not supported by Quickbooks)
  • Employee YTD information
  • Employee Payroll setup data is not converted (Sick Pay, Vacation, Direct Deposit information, Pay rates, Tax setup including Withholdings, Deductions, etc.)
  • Individual employee wage or deduction information
  • Custom templates
  • Jobs are not attached to transactions
  • Budgets
  • Fixed Asset Items (This is only applicable if your Sage 50 data file is linked to Sage 50 Fixed Assets)
  • Work Tickets
  • Posting and Non-posting transactions after the current date are not converted
  • Closed or partially closed Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, and Estimates
  • Sales Tax items are converted to Quickbooks but Customer Sales Tax defaults are not assigned to customers.
  • You have to map every available field in Sage 50/Peachtree to the corresponding field in Quickbooks. In some cases, fields are not compatible and are not transferred over. You will need to manually enter such fields after the conversion. Examples of such fields are vendor default account numbers, preferred vendors for inventory, multiple shipping addresses for customers, and default Customer Sales Tax settings.

Good luck!

This conversion tool requires that Peachtree is installed on the computer.  Peachtree/Sage does not offer a free trial.  Is there a workaround to this?

Thanks for joining on this thread, @AFergs.

Allow me to chime in and point you in the right direction in converting your Peachtree data to QBO.

When transferring your Peachtree data to QBO, it requires that both programs are installed on the same computer. This is to ensure a seamless conversion of files.

For more details, here's an article that contains solutions on how to avoid conversion tool error. Proceed directly to Step 2 to view the information: Convert from Sage 50 to QuickBooks Desktop.

Based on the scenario shared, you can consider using a third-party application to help move the data to the online system. There are plenty of apps that sync or integrate with your QuickBooks account. To help find one, visit the QuickBooks Apps Center. Then, enter a keyword in the search field or use the Categories option to expedite the process.

I'm also adding an article to help get acclimated about the features and processes you can perform in QuickBooks. From there, you'll see links on how to manage your sales tax, reconcile an account, etc.: Getting Started With QuickBooks Online.

Reach out to me if you have any other concerns or questions. I’m more than happy to answer them for you. Have a great rest of the day.

@AFergs

You may try opening your file on the trial license of QB Desktop 2020 prior to migrating to QB Online.

Another option, purchase a 3rd party migration service.
