You can manually upload the transactions from your bank into QuickBooks Online, @usersusan.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) automatically downloads the last 90 days or more of transactions depending on your bank. This is why only the entries from January to May were uploaded. To get the entire year's transactions, you can upload them manually.

First, check the date of the oldest transactions in your account to prevent duplicates. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu, and then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the bank or credit card account you want to upload more transactions into, and then choose View register.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the list and then take note of the date of the oldest transaction. In many cases, the oldest entry is the opening balance.

Second, you'll have to download the transactions from your bank. Below are the steps how:

  1. Sign in to your bank or credit card’s website, and then follow your bank’s instructions on how to download transactions to your computer. Some banks call this WebConnect and every financial institution has different steps. Here are steps for Bank of AmericaChase, and Wells Fargo.
  2. Ensure the date range for the download is at least one day before your oldest transaction.
  3. Download your transactions, and then save the file somewhere you can easily find it, like your desktop.

Then, follow steps 3 to 5 of this article to complete the upload process: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Once everything's fine, you may want to categorize and match your entries to ensure they're accounted for correctly and prevent duplicates. Then, you can reconcile them to make sure your books are correct.

How do I get the all entire year's transactions to download. When I clicked update on the initial download, it only downloaded Jan-May?

I was able to get the transactions for January 1 - June 7th year uploaded to my QB's account.  (When I initially set it up, only the last 90 days downloaded).  So now all of the transactions for the year are listed on my transactions page.  This is good news.

The problem I have now is on my "Banking" tab the QB's balance is the opening balance for June 8th, not the ending balance for today (9/15)  The "Bank balance" is correct.  How do I get the QuickBooks balance to be correct?

Hey there, @usersusan

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

The "in QuickBooks" balance is the accumulation of every transaction in the register, whereas the "Bank balance" is the current account balance stated by the bank. The best way to get them to match would be to reconcile. I've included the steps below to reconcile an account.

  1. From the Gear icon, choose Reconcile. If you're reconciling for the first time, select Get Started first, then Let's do it.
  2. In the Account drop-down menu, pick the account you want to reconcile (Please make sure it's the same one on your bank statement.).
  3. Check the Last statement ending date. Ensure your bank statement starts the day after your last reconciliation.
  4. Look over the Beginning balance. Be sure the beginning balance in QuickBooks matches the one on your bank statement. If they don't match, here's what to do.
  5. Enter the Ending balance and Ending date as they are on your bank statement.
  6. Once you're ready, select Start reconciling.

Once you're in the reconcile screen, compare your bank statement to QuickBooks. You can see more details in Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
