How do I reconcile a previous year in QB when the current year has already been reconciled? Each month for 2020 has been reconciled but 2019 has not yet been reconciled.

I started the business in 2019 but haven't reconciled any accounts yet in 2019, but started reconciling in January 2020. Now I need to go back and get 2019 reconciled. How do I do this?

Hi there, @tanzillobradley-.

Thank you for reaching out to us here on the Community page. I can help you with how to handle this in QuickBooks and ensure you'll be able to reconcile your previous year's transaction to keep your records up to date.

Reconciling past bank transactions will affect your current bank balances. To avoid this, you need to undo your entire reconciliation. Then, start the reconciliation from 2019.

You can remove the transactions from your reconciliation manually.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Chart of Accounts. (From the Accounting tab at the left pane, click on Chart of Accounts).
  2. Locate the appropriate account for the transaction.
  3. From the Action column, select View Register (or Account History).
  4. Identify the transaction to edit.
  5. In the reconcile status column (indicated by a checkmark), select the box and keep clicking it until the box is blank. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  6. Hit the Save button.

But if you're connected with an accountant, you can ask your accountant to undo the reconciliation for you. If you don't have one, you can add or invite an accountant from the Manage Users tab.

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a master admin.
  2. Select Manage Users from the Gear icon.
  3. Go to the Accounting firms tab.
  4. Tap Invite.
  5. Enter your accountant's info and select Save.
