I deleted all transaction but Amex still shows a balance

I wanted to start with an empty company file. I removed online banking from all bank and CC account. Then I selected condense company file, then remove the transactions, then all transactions.

The transactions were removed, however after setting up bank feed for Amex again I see a balance on my Amex card. Even though I had not downloaded the transaction just by linking the online to the QB account seemed to have pulled down the CC balance. I did not expect this.

I now also see all old rules. I had assumed that those are also deleted together with the transactions. It looks like deleting rules is not part of deleting transactions.

It would be nice if this could be an option as I have so many rules from several years of downloads which now need to be deleted manually.

I had checked for a DB table for rules that I could use an ODBC connection to delete all of them, but there is no tables related to rules. Or is this in a table with another name?

I appreciate the detailed information you've shared, @gerdgoebel.

The balance showing on your Amex account may be the QuickBooks balance. This will show even you deleted all your transactions to your bank account.

In addition, the QuickBooks Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver allows you to export data from your company file. To learn how to install and use the ODBC driver to delete the rules, you can check out this article for the detailed steps and information: How to install and set up the QuickBooks Enterprise ODBC Driver.

The balance is the CC balance, there is no QB balance for this CC. This is ok.

Regarding deleting the rules, I am familiar with the ODBC driver and how it works, I would be interested to learned which table holds the rules as there is none starting with anything like RUL*.

I've got the steps on how we can delete bank rule, gerdgoebel.

You can follow these steps to do it:

  1. Click the Banking menu.
  2. Select Bank Feeds and then Bank Feeds Center.
  3. Select Rules.
  4. Locate the rule and select the existing rule.
  5. Select Manage Rules.
  6. Click Delete Selected and then Yes to confirm.

This is not addressing my question. I know how to delete the rules manually.

Mark_R had replied with a link where I should have found information how to delete rules with ODBC, but that link did not say anything about where the rules are stored nor how they can be deleted using ODBC.

All I wanted to know is if there is a table that contains the rules that I can access with ODBC.
