I have been using QB self employed for over a year and have a number of Rules for categorizing transactions. Can I stop QB's from guessing and automatically categorizing?

Different purchases from the same merchants are sometimes under different categories and I do not want QB's auto categorizing.

We can delete the Rules, rad23109.

Let me guide you on how to do it:

  1. From the Gear icon, select Rules.
  2. Locate the rules that you want to delete in the Transaction rules page.
  3. In the ACTION drop-down, select Delete.

I've also added this article as your guide when categorizing the transaction manually: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

I'm just around if you still need my help. Take care!

The posted solution is not helpful--- i need to be able to stop qbse from automatically categorizing so I can manually review for myself and keep track of what i've completed based on what's bolded and what's not. If that isn't possible there's no point of me paying for the program.

I'd like to share another solution, ihatethiscompany.

At this time, we're unable to turn off the option. You'll want to manually categorize the transactions by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Transaction on the left menu.
  2. Find a transaction on the list and select Business or Personal. If the transaction was both business and personal, you can select Split.
  3. Under the Category column, select the best category to organize your transaction. If you have a receipt, you can drag and drop it onto the form.
  4. Click Save once you’re done.

I've got this article for reference: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions or other concerns. I'll be around to help you some more.

This is not helpful at all as I already know how to do this. The problem is I have no way of easily seeing which transactions I've already reviewed. Before I could tell which transactions I'd reviewed by which were still in bold. The problem is further complicated because the screen doesn't reset to my exact place when I add notes and save. So I'm spending a LOT of time trying to find my place after each save and a LOT of time duplicating efforts. From my review of the threads it doesn't appear that QBSE has any interest in support customer requests. Rather than writing programming that requires me to create a login to read help pages or ranks me for commenting or cheering a reply, it seems a better use of programming efforts could be toward returning functionality to customers. For this much effort I can just download to excel so I'm looking at other software options.

Yes. This is super annoying. Your software is getting many of my transactions wrong and I simply don't want it to categorize it for me. I have to go back and fix many of the wrong categorization mistakes that QB self-employed is doing automatically.

Please turn this feature off in the next update. It definately makes me consider other software options.
