I can help you add your 2020 bank transactions, @becky-spotphotog.

You can upload the entries manually via WebConnect by signing in to your online banking and download the CSV (comma-separated values) file of your transactions to your computer.

Before downloading the CSV file, make sure to check the date of the oldest transaction currently in the account to avoid duplicate transactions. Here's how:

  1. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), go to the Accounting menu and then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the bank in question and then click View register on the Action column.
  3. Usually, the oldest transaction is the opening balance, or simply click the Date header to sort it to the oldest/newest record.

Once done, get the transactions from your bank and download the CSV file. You can follow Step 2 through this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Then review the file format and size to manually upload them to QuickBooks (Step 3 and Step 4).

When transactions are in the system, you can then go to the Review tab in QuickBooks Banking to add, match them with transactions in QBO or categorize them.

If you have other questions or concerns with getting your prior online banking transactions, please leave a comment in this thread. I can help you always. Have a nice day!

I can help you with changing your bank's beginning balance, @becky-spotphotog.

The beginning balance amount should match what's on your bank statement. You can fix the opening balance by entering the balance of your real-life bank account.

If you haven't entered any beginning balance, you can create a journal entry. Check Step 2 on the following article: What to do if you didn't enter an opening balance in QuickBooks Online

You can also go to the Chart of Accounts and look for the Opening Balance Equity of the account that you're trying to change opening balance. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts
  2. Find the account on the list and click on View register.
  3. Search for the opening balance entry. It should have Opening Balance Equity in the Account column.
  4. In the Deposit column, edit the balance so it matches your bank records.
  5. Select Save.

Please refer to the following article for more information about editing your opening balance: Fix issues the first time you reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online

You can always get back to me if you have questions about changing your beginning balance or other concerns by leaving a comment below. I'm always here to assist. Have a great rest of the day.

Thank you so much. I was able to upload 2020 transactions from bank into quickbooks. How do I change the beginning balance in my chart of accounts for the checking account? Right now, it has the beginning balance starting 1/1/21 and I need it to reflect the correct beginning balance for 1/1/20.

Thank you!
