Thanks for posting a question here in the Community, @john-f-mcelroy.

Let me add some info about multi-currencies in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The Multi-currency feature in QBO allows you to assign specific account types for the following:

  • Customers and Vendors
  • Price levels
  • Bank/Credit Card accounts
  • Accounts receivable and Accounts payable

Once turned on, all income and expense accounts will base on the home currency. To have a sales account with Canadian Dollar (CAD) as the currency, you'll have to create a customer using that said currency. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Sales menu, and then choose the Customers tab.
  2. Click the New Customer button.
  3. On the Customer information window, select the Payment and billing section.
  4. Set the currency to (CAD) under the This customer pays me with drop-down ▼.
  5. Click Save to confirm the actions made.

Once done, you can now create a sales account in QBO using CAD as the currency. Just select the customer associated to it.

Also, please consider checking out this article to gain more insights on how multi-currency works in QBO. This way, you're able to learn what happens before and after turning it on: How Multi-currency works in QBO?.

I'm just around in the Community if you have more questions about managing multi-currency or anything else related to QuickBooks. I'll make sure you're able to achieve your goals. Take care and stay safe.

@john-f-mcelroy

If you deal with multi currency transactions, you have another options:

1. Utilize this payment service to release an invoice and accept payment in USD. Your customer will pay it in CAD.

2. Open a multi currency account at TW as the virtual bank and utilize the bank feed feature.
