One of my credit card accounts is missing 9 months of transactions. I can export them as a QBO file from Capital One. How do I import them?

I recently updated the account, it's linked properly, and the past few months of transactions synced and imported properly. The gap in transactions is from 3/27/20 to 1/4/21.

Hey there, @info1563.

I'm here to provide solutions to your banking concerns in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You can manually upload your bank transactions into QuickBooks using the CSV files format. You usually download this file from your bank. Before you can upload it, you need to make sure the data is in the correct format.

You can upload CSVs with either the following 3-column or 4-column format. These are the only columns QuickBooks can handle and this order. For more details, please check out this article: Learn about CSV formats.

When your file is formatted correctly, follow these steps to upload them into QuickBooks Online:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu and select the Banking tab.
  2. Select the blue tile for the account you want to upload the transactions into.
  3. Select the Link account drop-down list and then Upload from file.
  4. Click Browse and select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then, select Next.
  5. In the QuickBooks account drop-down menu, choose the account you want to upload the transactions into and select Next.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Then, select Next.
  7. Choose the transactions you would like to import and click Next.
  8. Select Yes and when you're ready, select Let's go.

Additionally, you can get the latest transactions from your bank and credit card accounts by doing a manual update. Simply check out this link for more details: Download the latest bank and credit card transactions.

Once your transactions are in QuickBooks, it's time to match and categorize them.

Don't hesitate to tag my name in the comment section below if you have other concerns or questions. I'm always ready to help.

I am missing 8 months of checking transactions.  I manually update and it still does not load the transactions.  Am I doing something wrong?

Happy to help you with your missing banking transactions, @somarp.

To help you with your missing banking transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You can disconnect and reconnect your account connected to online banking.

Take note that only 90 days' worth of transactions can be downloaded from most banks.

Here’s how disconnect an account connected to online banking:

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Banking menu and click Banking tab.
  2. Click the tile for the bank account.
  3. Click the pencil icon to edit, and select Edit account info.
  4. Select the Disconnect this account on save.
  5. Select Save and Close.

Once done, you can reconnect the account to start downloading transactions again.

Since you also mentioned that 8 months of your transactions were missing from your account, you can also import the transactions by uploading the CSV file provided by your bank to get the accurate transactions.

You can refer to this article about formatting CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

For your future reference, you can check out the following articles to manually upload your transactions, categorize, and reconcile an account.
