Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

"Select the bank emblem to the left of the account that you want to connect and select the account type drop-down menu to choose a bank or credit card account. You must choose either a Bank or Credit Card account. If you don't have the account created, you can select +Add new to create a new account."

I used to work in a third party Quickbooks Online support center and I think the wording on this should be made a little more clear. One of the common issues people had when attempting to connect a bank account was understanding that the accounts listed in these drop-down menus are accounts in their Quickbooks Online Chart of Accounts.

A lot of times people would choose an old account because they didn't realize they could create a new one or would just simply get really confused about how to continue because they did not know they could create a new account.

Perhaps a better way to word it might be, "Select the bank emblem to the left of the account that you want to connect and select the account type drop-down menu to choose a bank or credit card account that exists in your Chart of Accounts. If the account does not already exist in your chart of accounts, you can select +Add new to create a new one without leaving the page. You must choose either a Bank or Credit Card account."

I know that is basically what you said, but I feel it is important to be as clear as humanly possible that the drop-down menu is of accounts that already exist in your chart of accounts. Then again, maybe I am nit-picking. I have been known to do that.

Additionally, the font on the 'Connect bank accounts through your Chart of Accounts,' section is different than the 'Connect bank and credit card accounts through the Banking,' section.

Otherwise, it is a beautiful article and I am very excited about being able to connect bank accounts directly from the CoA. So much Awesome!

Sincerely,

When I click "Reconnect my account" for 324, the next screen is blank. The only options on the next screen are Start Over, Done, and X.

How do I get my bank account reconnected?

QuickBooks Team

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

Hi Bianchijoe,

To resolve this, you'll want to disconnect and reconnect your account.

To disconnect:

  1. Go to Transactions > Banking > Click the pencil at the top right of the bank account to Edit the account.
  2. On the Account page, check the box 'Disconnect this account on save'.
  3. Confirm that you want to delete the connection and stop downloading transactions. The account stays in QuickBooks Online but isn't automatically updated with transactions.

For any transactions that got missed I'd recommend following the steps here.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

I have been trying for some time to get my financial institution connected on my quickbooks account.

When i go through the online set, it finds the bank, finds my account, validates that i am not a robot and then ALWAYS says the bank is busy or cannot be reached.

I have gone to the bank and they have advised the issue is not on their end.  When i check with Quickbooks they say the issue is not on their end.

I can tell you I have an issue and no one seems to be able to help.  If someone from Quickbooks could reach out to me, i would really apprecaite it to get this resolved.

I'm here to find a resolution for your bank issue, @their.

Do you mind clarifying which version of QuickBooks this is occurring in and which financial institution you're trying to connect to? If there are any numeric codes when you receive the error (ex: Error 103), be sure to include those as well. It's possible that the issue with the connection may not have been identified yet and requires further investigation by the support team.

Thank you for getting in touch with the Community, I look forward to your reply.

Have just tried to add my credit card to the banking page following your instruction. Went to chart of accounts, then to the "Account History" tab to find "Connect bank" but the only options are Edit Delete or Run Report. The credit card is set to "Credit Card" in the chart of accounts.

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

I've got some answers that will help you get your bank connected, @dtcuffley.

The option to connect directly from the Chart of Accounts is only available for bank accounts, and will be introduced to credit cards in the very near future. In the meantime, you can get that CC account connected using the first method detailed in the article above.

Let me know if you have any troubles with this, I'll be happy to lend a hand. Thank you for reaching out, and have a great day.

What are the steps to connect a business credit card parent account and single employee sub-account?

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

  1. Accounting > Add New
  2. Create an 'Umbrella' account. The Account Type will be Credit Card and so will the Detail Type. This account will not be connected. But this will be the primary account. This account will also not show up on the Banking page. Its purpose is to make it possible for you to reconcile.
  3. Connect each of your Credit Card accounts. Most banks will distribute payments made to pay down the Credit Card to one account. This account will often include the primary card holder's Credit Card expense transactions. Then there will be individual accounts for each of the 'employee' Credit Cards. This is not always the case though and the way they show up in Quickbooks Online really depends on how your bank actually distributes its transactions.
  4. Once the accounts are connected and you have assigned an account in the Chart of Accounts for the transactions to go into, (each connected account will have its own account in Chart of Accounts) Go back to the Chart of Accounts page.
  5. Find each of the connected credit card accounts, look to the right of the screen and you will see a link that says View Register and to the right of that a small black down arrow. Select the down arrow and then select Edit.
  6. Check the Is Sub-Account option and then choose the "Umbrella" account from the drop-down menu.

The umbrella account's balance will be the sum total of the Umbrella's account balance and all of its subaccounts. Additionally, if you view the Umbrella account's register you will see all transactions that been applied directly to the Umbrella account's register and all of the transactions applied to its subaccount's register. As a side note, in most cases, there should never be any transactions applied directly to your umbrella account. All transactions will be assigned to the sub-accounts. So you will be able to view the register of each sub-account and easily determine which transactions were made from which card. Since you will be able to see transactions from all of the accounts in the "Umbrella" account, you will be able to reconcile your Quickbooks Online Credit Card account to your Credit Card Statement.

I have also included some articles below that might help you out if my instructions are not easy enough to follow:

Setting up bank or credit card account that attaches to a primary account

Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts (I doubt you will need this one, but just in case.)

 Hope this helps!

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

This did not work I have tried multiple times, I get as far as selecting the bank after mulit verification and it won't let me add the new account as any name I choose. There is a green Check mark over the bank image, but the select button never highlights. I have been trying this for two days now and have been given over ten secondary access codes by my credit card company. It has been very frustrating.

Hi.  I am trying to link our Office Depot, Best Buy, and FedEx cards to QuickBooks.   It doesn't work when it try adding the accounts in banking and putting their URLs, usernames, and passwords.   Am I able to do link them?

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

Hi there, @amber1.

It's my priority that you can download the transactions from your Office Depot, Best Buy, and FedEx cards with ease. If you've searched for these bank extensions with their log-in URL's and the connection fails, this means the cards don't support linking with QuickBooks at this time. However, new banks are being added to QBO feeds all the time, so I encourage you to reach out to these institutions and request the functionality in the future.

Until then, you may be able to import transactions from these cards using the WebConnect process. This involves downloading their transaction lists in Excel format and saving it as (.CSV) to be downloaded into QuickBooks. I'll guide you through the process below:

1. Log in to the Office Depot, Best Buy, or FedEx card's website and navigate to the transaction list. Search for a download option, and select the (.CSV) format for the file.

2. From QuickBooks Online, head to the Banking tab. On the Update drop-down menu, select File Upload.

3. Click Browse and find the file you downloaded. Follow the on-screen instructions to map and import your transactions.

This will allow you to download multiple transactions for these retail store cards at once. You can learn more about using WebConnect from the guide at this link. If you have any other questions, please know I'm only a post away. Thanks for coming to the Community, wishing you continued success.

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

My bank is on the list, but not the business portion, so I can't log in.  I have gone through the whole process in an attempt to find the right url - I even cut and pasted the url into the search bar when prompted, but this brings up nothing.  What is my next step to get my bank account connected?

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

Good afternoon, @jakins.

I'd like an opportunity to clarify the process of connecting the business portion of your account. If the bank's business portal doesn't appear when searching with the URL from the log-in screen, this indicates the extension doesn't have QuickBooks support at this time. The various extensions that a bank offers (checking, credit lines, trusts, business, investment, etc.) are all powered by different log-in portals. It's common for each of these portals to have heightened and varying security measures that make connecting with QuickBooks impossible. The next step would be to get in touch with your financial institution and ask if they offer a different method for using QuickBooks bank feeds with the business portion of your account.

In the meantime, the WebConnect method explained in the post above will help you download transactions into QBO. I'll provide you with the guides for doing so in both versions of QuickBooks below:

Please know you can always reach me here should you have any additional questions or concerns. Thanks for reaching out to the Community, here's to a productive and successful week.

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

I used the first method indicated in the article.  After clicking Connect, QBO downloaded ALL my bank account transactions going back to mid 2015.  Please check your process as it did not occur for me in line with your instructions.  I now have 2 years of transactions I need to 'exclude' !  Not happy.  Not a great start to using QBO !

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

Hi, @Fruhj.

Let me share my insight about downloading your bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

The information we received will depend on what your financial institution shares with us.

I'd suggest contacting your financial institution to check if it's possible to adjust the dates and settings of your downloaded bank transactions.

I'm just a post away if you have other questions.

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

Thanks - I received this information 3 times from 3 different people - but nobody actually addressed my issue.  Thankfully when I added the 3rd bank account on Saturday the same way, only 90 days of transactions downloaded.  Wish the other two accounts had downloaded the same way.

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

Client credit cards are with the same bank as business checking account, and I would like to import cc transactions the same way QBO imports banking transactions.  I was able to get to the step where QBO prompted me about the account I wished to connect (bank vs cc), but:

- For some reason, it took several times going through the same steps to get that drop down box to show; and

- When I entered the credit card account, it imported the BANK transactions and connected the bank acct to the credit card acct.  The dialogue box did not give me the option of attaching a business credit card account.

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

My credit card account came unattached from the Banking page.  I tried to "add account" but received the following error message:  "Credit Card Payable is already linked to a bank feed.  Select a QBs account without an existing bank connection."

The CC appears in "Chart of Accounts". How can I reconnect my CC to the Banking page without losing my transacations?

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

For a while, QuickBooks and our bank would randomly stop talking to each other.  I would get the ! error message in the bank feed, and click on the link to reconnect.  This would take me to a basically empty screen that said (I think) "Reconnect Accounts" at the upper left.  There were a few banking symbols at the center of the page, but nothing else on the page.  No active links to "reconnect" the accounts.  Somehow the accounts would reconnect over the next couple hours (nothing I did enabled this), so it might have been an internet glitch - but it happened several times when our internet service was doing just fine otherwise.

This happened again yesterday, and this time there were some links asking me which accounts I wanted to reconnect.  It was very hard to see the "dot" that QBO wanted me to click on, but at least I could hover over the wording with my cursor and eventually find what QB was needing me to do.

I don't know if this was a recent fix, but thank you for adding in the instructions and links to actually do something about the linkage.  It was a little frustrating to try to remedy a situation only to be transferred to a basically empty web page.

Thanks again for all you're doing to constantly make improvements - QB is getting better all the time, and I'm sure it's from the efforts of people like you.  Good work, all of you!

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

I have been having a problem with Banking for several weeks now.  I have several accounts (cash and credit cards) with Chase.  All are working fine with the exception of one credit card - the bank balance does not update no matter how many times I "update" and/or edit the information.  The bigger problem I am having is that I am not able to add an account.  I am selecting "Chase" and I ALWAYS get a "580" error message.  I have also tried JP Morgan and get the same message.  I have 7 different, escalated case number from customer support, after spending hours upon hours on the phone.  Each time I am told the engineers will work on it.  I then receive an email stating my issue has been resolved, (which of course it has not).  This is a cycle that I cannot seem to break no matter what I do.  I have left messages for a manager to call me back and get nothing.  I am beyond frustrated and need to be able to add this account and have the other account update.  I am using QBO.

Error code 102.

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

The Community has your back, @546847.

I'll be happy to help you get your bank connection back on track. The 102 error simply represents a communication issue between QuickBooks and your financial institution, and there are plenty of potential causes. Can you fill me in on which bank is presenting you this error? I'll start by checking for similar reports from other users of the same bank to see if there's a pattern.

With this information, I can get you started on the right path to getting this fixed. Thanks for reaching out, I'll be on standby for your response.

Re: We want your feedback on "Add and connect your bank and credit card accounts"

I am still unable to connect my Chase CC to the banking page.  I went through the whole procedure to "add account", but I get an error message that says the account is already connected. (The chase CC does appear in the Accounts page and I can update it manually.)
