What data should be in the Type field when Mapping a CSV bank file? Quickbooks Desktop 2019

Welcome to Community @k9funfit,

The data in the type field should be either Customer, Vendor, and Item type. Check this link to learn more: Import/export CSV files.

You can visit our QuickBooks Help for more information about our QuickBooks.

If you need further assistance, don't hesitate to leave a comment. Have a wonderful day!

Greetings, @k9funfit.

You'll want to convert your .csv file to .qbo file to import your bank transactions to your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Or you can download the transactions again from your bank and ensure to use the .qbo file.

QBDT uses the .qbo file when importing bank transactions. While QuickBooks Online (QBO) uses the .csv file.

Once done:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Click Import.
  4. Then select Web Connect Files.
  5. Click Continue.

Here's an article you can read for more details: Import web connect (.qbo) files.

I'm also adding this article for reference in reconciling your accounts: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop. This link provides detailed information to accurately reconcile your accounts.

Let me know in the comment section if there's anything I can help you with. I'm more than happy to help you. Have a great day and stay healthy.

Thanks for getting back to us, k9funfit.

The option to convert from CSV file to QuickBooks Online file isn't available. I'll take note of this idea and share it with our Developers.

However, you can look for a third-party application that can help you convert your file.

All you have to do is click the Apps tab. Then, click Browse category.

When you're ready to import the information, you can check these articles:

Ok thanks. I apologize. I'm actually using QuickBooks Desktop. I need to map my CSV file columns (date, description, & amount), but I keep getting an error for Type. What is supposed to be in the Type column?

Nobody has been able to answer my question.

The Type column refers to the account type, k9funfit.

Since you've imported the transactions through the CSV file, you'll be asked to enter their account type. You can check this article for more information about the different type of accounts in QuickBooks: Understand the chart of accounts in QuickBooks.

Afterward, you're good to import the transactions.

I'm just a post away if you still nee my help!

That article still didn't address my question though.

My CSV file looks like this

Date               Description                    Amount

1/2/2020       Royal Farm Gas             33.54

When I try to import it, I get an error in the Type field. My question is, would column D be Type and what information is supposed to go in that column? If Type should not be a column head then what information is it and where should it be noted?

Hello there, k9funfit.

The Type field indicates the type of transaction. You'll want to add a column for the Transaction Type after the Date. Then, columns for the Description, and the Amount.

You can also use the Web Connect (.qbo) files to import the bank transactions. You can get the file from your bank's website and saved it on your computer. Afterward, import the transactions in QuickBooks, so they show up in your Bank Feeds.

I've got this article for the instructions: Import web connect (.qbo) files.

Please leave a comment if you have any other questions or concerns. Take care.
