I have not reconciled for almost 2 years (last time 1/2/2017. Decided to catch up but it now displays my beginning balance (12/30/2016) as 12/31/2017. I can't find any way to correct this. Any suggestions?

Our goal is to make QuickBooks as a one-stop shop that's helpful and affordable. With that being said, allow me to help you ensure your beginning balance is correct while performing reconciliation.

To verify the exact date you had your last reconciliation, you can pull up your Reconciliation Report.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Enter Reconciliation Report in the Go to report search bar.
  3. Click Reconciliation Reports.
  4. Choose the account for the reconciliation report you want to view.
  5. Select the reconcile period from the Period Ending.
  6. Click View Report.

From there, you can see the date when your account was last reconciled.

On the other hand, to fix your beginning balance information please follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Under Your Company, choose Chart of Accounts.
  3. Locate the specific account your're about to reconcile.
  4. Click View Register.
  5. Review the account's opening balance amount and the date.
  6. Double click on the transaction to Edit it.

Once you've corrected the beginning balance information, you can now proceed with the reconciliation process
