I have a frequently occurring problem.  I am able to successfully reconcile my account, but then when I try to reconcile the next month, the beginning balance is magically incorrect. Sometimes I find where the "clear" check mark has been changed, but I do not find that to be the case this time. I have undone reconciliations back to the end of 2019 and the balance difference is still the same amount, $140.  Even though all of those statements were successfully reconciled, the beginning balance for January is now $140 less than the January statement. The same discrepancy is true for February - April. Very annoying and

Hi there, @Madcap.

Thanks for visiting the Community today. I appreciate you for sharing detailed information of your reconciliation concern. I'm here to help you get past this issue.

Based on what you've shared, it could be that the data on your QuickBooks Desktop company file may have been damaged. Let's repair your company file using the Verify Rebuild Data tool. Here's how:

  1.  In the File menu, hover over to the Utilities
  2. Select Verify Data.
  3. Let the tool check your file for data issues, then select OK to close all windows.

If you see “Your data has failed the integrity check” you need to rebuild your file. Here's how to rebuild your company file:

  1. Go back to the File menu, then Utilities.
  2. Select Rebuild Data.
  3. On the QuickBooks Information window, click OK.
  4. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup.
  5. Let the tool repair your file. It may take some time but as long as you can move your mouse, it should be working.

If QuickBooks doesn't find any more problems, that means you have no data damage. Check out this article for more detailed steps: Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac

Thank you!  I thought about taking those steps after I posted the message and before I got yours, but I was not able to work on it again until today.  I did VERIFY and REBUILD. I had already processed UNDO reconciliation back to January and decided to stop, because I did not know when I would ever get a matching balance.  It did not show before, but after V and R, looking at that January reconciliation, there was an entry missing compared to the bank statement. Anyway, I entered that amount and have my reconciliations up to date. I was lucky that the missing amount was in January where I had stopped UNDO!  Thanks again!
