Should bank balance in the blue tiles on the banking page update to show the actual balance?

I have linked the savings and checking accounts at my bank, and I have clicked update, but the bank balances remain $0.00.  When I click Link Account, it shows my accounts as linked. When I click the down arrow next to Link Account and select Manage Connections, it shows my bank and my two accounts with the correct bank balances, but this disappears when I go Back to Banking.  Any suggestions?

Should bank balance in the blue tiles on the banking page update to show the actual balance?

Hi there, @bert-thesni-org.

Welcome to the Community. Let me share some troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue. I'm here to ensure you can see your bank balances on the Banking page.

Before we start, may I know the name of your bank? Once you connect your bank or credit card accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO), you'll see all your cleared transactions and their balances.

Most common issues in QBO are usually a result of too much accumulated historical data. Whenever you visit a website, it saves some information from the web page in its cache and cookies. These files allow the websites you visit most often to load faster. Not to worry, clearing them will do the trick.

First, let's try accessing your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

After logging in to QBO, check your balances on the Banking page. If it shows the correct available amount, I recommend clearing your browser's cache so you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported browser.

QuickBooks automatically downloads entries up to a certain date. If you want to enter older ones, or if your bank or credit card can't connect to QuickBooks, you can upload transactions manually.

If you need further assistance with your online bank feeds, I'm always available here to help. I'll keep an eye out for your response. Take care, @bert-thesni-org!

Should bank balance in the blue tiles on the banking page update to show the actual balance?

Hi @LieraMarie_A ,

Thanks for replying to my question.  My bank is Meriwest Credit Union in San Jose, CA. This may not mean anything, but before switching to QBO, I used Quicken to balance the checkbook, and I had no trouble connecting to Meriwest and downloading transaction.

I tried logging in through an incognito window in Chrome, but there was no change in Banking blue tiles. Update did not change it. Manage Connections showed the correct balances, but they disappeared when I returned to Banking. Refreshing the web page had no effect. I have entered all of my transactions manually and reconciled all that have cleared the bank account. There are a handful of transactions that have not cleared yet.

I understand that I can continue to upload and reconcile manually, but having it do it automatically is a big plus.  Thanks again.

Thank you for that detailed response, bert-thesni-org

Allow me to help you with the bank balance issue.

Let's manually update your bank account and check if it updates the bank's balance. This process will also download your latest transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account
  2. Go to Banking menu, then Banking tab
  3. Click on the Update button.

If the bank's balance remains zero, please contact our Customer Care Team. This allows our team to look into this further and, if necessary, create an investigation ticket.

I've also included this article in case you encounter an error or have trouble downloading transactions: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know by leaving a comment in this thread if you have any further questions about managing your linked bank accounts. Have a great day!
