Express Web Connect not working

Express Web Connect service will replace Direct Connect and will be available in QuickBooks 2016.

I am trying to set that up as I have been using Direct Connect with my Capital One account. The new instructions indicate - From the QuickBooks Banking menu, choose Bank Feeds > Setup Bank Feed for an Account. But my 2016 Mac version does not have BANK FEEDS in the Banking Menu. How do I set this up?

I am using Version V17.2.24 R25  Build 624 which indicates it is the most current version.

I have no idea what "still does not work" means. What happens when you try? What does Capitol One have to say? Does this connection type support QB Mac?

"Still does not work" meant I had NOT ENABLED the previous accounts and it still would not allow me to to use Express Connect. Capital One directed me to the instructions provided by Quickbooks which indicated I would go to BANKING  SETUP menu where I would find BANK FEEDS. I don't have BANK FEEDS as a menu option. If I go to Banking Online Setup the instructions indicate I should login to my Cap One online account and DOWNLOAD a months transaction then go to Quickbooks and Download that file. When I do that Quickbooks crashes and opens CrashReporter.

I think you can still use Web Connect with Capital One. They turned direct connect off. Try setting it up again with Banking->Set UP but do so as Web Connect.

Direct Connect online banking for Capital One will be discontinued

Capital One Bank has discontinued Direct Connect service shortly, after some delay from the date initially communicated. You need to have the latest QuickBooks patch and updated Bank Feeds settings to ensure smooth transition of your data from Direct Connect to Express Web Connect.

What this means:
  • Express Web Connect service will replace Direct Connect and will be available in QuickBooks 2016 and later.
NOTE: The service will NOT be available in QuickBooks for Mac.
  • Direct Connect and all online banking services features such as Manage Bill Pay or Transfers will NO longer be supported in QuickBooks 2015 and later.
  • If you try to use the Direct Connect features with the Capital One account after December 19, you will get one of the following messages:

Express Web connect is a method of getting bank information - I think it involves web scraping (like Mint used to do and maybe still does) I think Yodlee was the first to do this. Its one method of getting bank information from their web sites and I believe QuickBooks Windows and QuickBooks Online can use it.

QuickBooks Mac doesn't have that.  But I was told there would be a way to download WebConnect (.qbo) files and it would be supported in the bank list.  Maybe it didn't happen - its up to the bank.  But do give those other ones a try and see if they work.

According to QB support, QB Mac 2016 does not support Capital One downloads anymore now that they switched to Express Web and there is no other version available for Mac users to do this with the exception of QB Online, which I am not going to spend money on. The only other options for Mac users is to use Parallels and pay for a windows version. They did not offer any hope that this would change anytime soon.

Its under Capital One - New.  But it has to refresh the list (I think the update came out recently).  to refresh the list go into the Banking->Online Account Set up.  Bring up the window then cancel out of it.  Then Quit QuickBooks.  Restart Quickbooks and when you go back to Banking->Online Bank set up it should be there.

It may be that it hasn't rolled out into your area yet. If that's the case try again tomorrow.

I get that but then I get this message: Go to your financial institution and download a statement from Capital one and import into QB to finish setup process. When I do that QB crashes. QB support says it is not supported on the MAC. Don't know what else to say. I appreciate the help but it still is not working.

I'm not using a Mac, but although I see "Capital One Bank - New" it will not allow me to connect the bank feed. And I'm getting the run-around from both QB and Capital One.

Hello there, @nolabookkeeper.

Thanks for joining us here in the Community! I'm here to provide the steps in resolving this specifically for the QuickBooks product you're using.

Based on the screenshot you've added, this error occurs due to the inability of the program to detect the Intuit ID you're using. You need to connect your Intuit User ID to your company file to resolve this.

In case you haven't tried yet, here are the steps:

  1. Go to Company at the top menu bar.
  2. Choose My Company.
  3. Sign in using your Intuit website credentials (not your company file credentials).

If you don't have an Intuit login yet, you can click the Create an account button to make one instead. After you've signed in, try connecting to Capital One again.

If you're still unable to connect the Capital One Bank-New account, please contact us. Our phone specialists has the necessary tools to securely look into your account and see what's causing this to happen.

To reach us:

  1. Go to https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact
  2. Choose QuickBooks for Windows.
  3. Select your QuickBooks for Windows version.
  4. Pick a topic.
  5. Click on the Get Phone Number button.

Don't hesitate to let me know as to how things go. I'm always here to take a second look at this for you!
