Hi @ron-watchbatteri,

I'm here to walk you through the process of converting your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company file to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Two things you need to do before we proceed:

  • Ensure your QBDT version is up-to-date.
  • Check that your company file isn't too large to export. The QBDT company file must be less than 350,000 targets. You can use the Condense utility if that isn't the case.

When you're ready to proceed with the conversion process, follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in as an admin to the company file you need to import.
  2. Go to the Company menu, then select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Press Start your export.
  4. Sign in as an admin to your QBO company.
  5. Choose Yes to import inventory items if you use them, then specify the as of date. Otherwise, hit No.
  6. From the Choose online company drop-down menu, choose the correct QBO company.
  7. Hit Continue.
  8. Type in Agree in the text field, then press Replace.
  9. Tap Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then click Replace.

You can open this article for more information on the conversion process: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online. Scroll down to Step 3: Make sure your books match to proceed.

In case you bump into any issues during the conversion process, you can use this article as a reference: How to fix errors when converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online

When you're done with the conversion, I suggest you open this article: What to do after converting from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac to QuickBooks Online. It's a list of things you need to do to ensure that the conversion process was successful, and the data in your QBO company is accurate.

Feel free to tag me in your post below if you have other questions about the conversion process of QBDT to QBO. I'll be around to help you out.

@ron-watchbatteri

Do you wish to migrate data from QBD US to QBO US? If you are using an outdated QBD version, utilize the trial license of QBD 2021 to upgrade your file prior to migrating to QBO.
