We added a new company in 2019, using a different "class" value for new company transactions. What is the easiest way to move the new company to a new QBO account?

Hope you’re having a great day, @edenridgeincqb.

I’m here to ensure you’ll be able to move your new company file to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.

To perform this process smoothly, you’ll want to ensure your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software is up-to-date and doesn’t exceed the file size limit. Also, QBDT and QBO are different platforms. Thus, some of your lists and reports won’t be converted due to feature differences.

Nevertheless, here’s how to move your company file:

  1. Sign in as an admin to the company file you want to import.
  2. Press Ctrl + 1 on your keyboard to open the Product Information window.
  3. Press Ctrl + B + Q, then select OK.
  4. Select Start your export on the export window.
  5. Then sign in to your QBO account.
  6. Click the Choose online company drop-down menu, then select the QBO company you want to be replaced by your company file.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Enter “Agree” in the text field, then click Replace.
  9. Simply click Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then select Replace.

You can also refer to this article for more detailed steps: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Once done, run both profit and loss reports in your QBDT software and QBO to ensure your books match.

Additionally, we have articles that can guide you to learn your ways around QBO. You can visit our QuickBooks Support page for your reference.

I’ll be around if you need further assistance in moving your company file. I’d be more than happy to work with you. Have a great weekend!

@edenridgeincqb

Just to clarify, do you have a QB Desktop file with 2 company files separated by Class? You should migrate it manually to QB Online.

Filter the data and create a second company file on your QB Desktop. You may utilize a 3rd party party migration tool to do so. Then you may migrate the new company file to QBO.
