When I record a transfer from a bank account to a sub-account - QBO fails to reconcile with "transferring from and to the same account". How do I get QBO to reconcile?

Fidelity when you earn interest provides two transactions: 1. The interest payment 2. the transfer to the SPAXX account.  I set this up using the main account and a SPAXX sub-account.  When I try to reconcile the transaction in QBO, I get the error "You can't select a transfer to/from the same account you're currently working in." even though I am transferring from the parent account into the sub-account for SPAXX.  I would like to be able to reconcile these transactions.

Thanks for reaching out, Micco. Allow me to assist you in addressing the transfer issue you are experiencing.

The error message occurs when QuickBooks Online (QBO) misinterprets the transaction as being within the same account rather than between different accounts due to account configuration or transaction documentation.

I suggest setting up your SPAXX account as a sub-account of your bank in QBO to distinguish them as separate entities during reconciliation. Please ensure to review both the interest payment and the transfer transaction entries. Specifically, the interest payment is categorized correctly, and the transfer indicates that it is moving funds from the main account to the SPAXX sub-account.

Once you have verified these entries, reconcile your main bank account without including the SPAXX transfers. After that, you can move on to reconcile the SPAXX sub-account separately.

Additionally, ensure there are no duplicate entries for either the interest payment or the transfer in QBO, as duplicates can cause discrepancies during reconciliation. Confirm that your opening balances in QBO match those on your bank statement, as discrepancies here can lead to reconciliation issues.

Moreover, I'd like to share some helpful resources to assist you in handling your downloaded transactions in QBO. These articles are designed to guide you through matching transactions and resolving any reconciliation issues you may encounter.

I encourage you to comment below if you have any more questions or need additional assistance with your financial transactions or any other inquiries in QBO. I am here to support you at every step.

Hi Aldren,

Thanks so much for your reply - but I am still struggling.

My accounts are set up exactly as you describe, with my Fidelity account as the main account and a SPAXX sub-account. I have recorded the transaction as a transfer from the main account into the sub-account for SPAXX, exactly as described. Still, QBO refuses to allow me to clear the transaction from the main account, giving the indicated error. See the attached screenshots.

What am I doing wrong?
